Have we done this topic yet?

For the quantities I use I'll probably buy E5 super unleaded for Outboards and Garden tools although I'm not convinced going from 5-10 is going to be garden tool Armageddon! :)

Aspen is a bit too pricey for me. :(

I've just discovered zero ethanol fuel is available and always has been.

From the Esso website:

Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). Legislation requires us to place these E5 labels on pumps that dispense unleaded petrol with ‘up to 5% ethanol’, including those that contain no ethanol, which is why we display them on our Synergy Supreme+ 99 pumps.

Yes. There have been a number of threads about this.

I buy the Synergy Supreme+ 99 for my outboards.

It is still questionable whether ethanol is beneficial to the planet. Growing, watering , taking up food crops, transport, refining etc.

I need to pay more attention.

It is still questionable whether ethanol is beneficial to the planet. Growing, watering , taking up food crops, transport, refining etc.

Well that's another topic. When 1 child dies from hunger every 30minutes is it morally acceptable to grow fuel instead of food? But that's a bigger problem. Having garden tools and outboards that run is a small problem I *can* address.

...a friend of mine gets very irritated when people say "oh that's a first world problem" like that makes it irrelevant and silly.. his response is that "rightly or wrongly I live in the first world so to me it is a problem"... :)

...on the original question - I bought my first 5 litres of Super unleaded for the outboard ever last weekend... E10 is probably not an issue, but my view is for an extra quid or two why sweat it, and to do what I can to ensure the engine works when it needs to...

I must admit to finding it a bit frustrating that on all the threads arguing about 'stale' fuel and the benefits of Aspen nobody has ever thought to mention that at least one supplier sells fuel with 0pc ethanol straight out of the pump on a bog standard forecourt. Like Fantasie 19 I'm not too concerned about Ethanol whether it's 5 or 10pc but when it's cheap and zero effort to avoid it, I will. (Now I know.)

To be fair to the forum I believe it was mentioned in one of the threads, along with Aspen... I did check on Aspen and there's an outlet on Hayling that has it (garden machinery place), think it was about £20 for 5 litres from memory which wouldn't necessarily have put me off but it was a bit of a drive/hassle to get to it... same with Shell - either Farlington or a trip to Chichester along the bypass to get it... so I went with E5 Super for ease really...

I've simply taken the decision to only use Aspen for my old 2-stroke 2.5hp outboard. I'm unlikely to use more than 5-10 litres per season, so at £25 per 5 litres compared to £6.50 for unleaded that's a marginal increased cost of no more than £37 a year - which equates to about 1.5% of my total annual boat costs. No more forgetting whether I've got regular fuel or Aspen in the tank at the end or start of the season, no more gummed up carb just when I don't need the hassle! Just fill and forget. (But I still of course always shut off the fuel cock to let the carb run dry when finished running.)

I have recently obtained a chain saw and blower which haven’t been used for a few years and was thinking on Aspen as fuel and also for the merc3.3 once I get it running again. as said usage is small. I have in past used for lawnmower final cut on basis it seems a small price to pay to help keep an old Hayter going.
