Hello folks,
I am trying to gather some information about a boat that has been in our family since the early 1970's. The hull is constructed from sheets of wood that must have been pressed to form the curvature of the hull. There is a covered bow section but no cabin. It is 11'6" in length and the beam is quite broad being about 5'. My father bought it from a boatyard/chandlers in Wallingford in about 1973. It has a plate which states "E.H. Chandler, Boatbuilder, Broadstairs". I have tried searching the internet for this boatbuilder but with no results at all. If anybody has some information and/or tips as to how search for info. I'd be very grateful.
Thanks.
Rob.

Can't help very directly, but seeing as you've had no response yet..... I used to know Broadstairs quite well, and if I remember rightly the last boatbuilder there packed up in the early '60s. However, there's a sailing club there which has it's own class, the Foreland, which must be/have been built/repaired locally, so it might be worthwhile asking them about Chandler.
There's also the Broadstairs Sea-Angling Club - so if what you have is a rowing or motor boat rather than a sailing dinghy they might be a better bet - perhaps more likely to have old-timers around who would know about the older boats.
Good luck
Richard

A quick peak HERE shows that an "A. Chandler" sit's on the board of the Broadstairs Sea Angling Club. Any one want to take a bet on wether he's family or not??
