Anyone got a feel for how strictly the dutch will police their new rules about holding tanks?

We don't have holding tanks and whilst we use marina loos for solid emissions my three lady crew are not going to be told they can't answer a call of nature whilst in a canal or out in the veersemeer or osterschelde.

The Dutch are usually pretty laid back - what do you think? A tough approach could well affect their leisure boating industry

I agree. The Ijselmeer is going to be full of ladies with crossed legs I don't think. I think as a visitor one would be well advised to have a tank (or chemical loo) just in case, though I've never encountered any officials in inland Dutchland. Cultivating a quiet pumping technique can be useful too, with someone on the lookout.

As I understand it pee is only grey water so can be discharged from your boat'

Poo is black water and should not be discharged from the boat in the non tidal areas.
So just use the marina loos instead of your own or go 12 miles from land ie middle of the Iselmere

useless piece of info here /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

if you end up with one of those floating poos, the Yanks referr it as a molly brown, named after a lady who was shipwrecked 3 times (including the Titanic) and did not sink

I haven't read all the detail but my understanding is there is no rule about holding tanks. The rule is not to discharge black waste. You can still visit Holland in your boat without a holding tank - just don't use the heads.

Generally you're right - the Dutch don't go looking for people to carve up - unlike their neighbours to the east!

Their own fleet has got many years ahead of it before all vessels are "crap-tight" so I take the view it's only the most obvious desecrations of their environment that will attract attention. So, keep it in mind but not to the point of mania - besides they have all those marinas for the crew to...
