Dunkirk must be the freindliest and cheapest port in the area. Any fellow Yachting Monthly readers here,I can show you the sights and introduce you to some proper ravers,Jerry.
I like the free bus that starts at the marina, does a lap of the town and ends up back at the marina - ideal for the easily confused or lost!
Whilst on the bus my daughter spotted the swimming pool...'Can we go there please!?'.....'OK let's get back to the boat and grab our stuff,'
An hour later, both of us wearing our new 'swimming hats' (required apparently) about to enter the pool, I was the subject of a whistle blowing drama! Surrounded by at least 6 members of pool staff, my pigeon French wasn't much use
I'm sorry what? Why are they pointing at my swimming shorts?
They are forbidden!
I'm sorry what was that, no swimming shorts??
But all the cool English people wear these!
Speedo budgie smugglers only?? Seriously?
Xyachtdave and daughter thrown out.
Daughter now sobbing, 'Sorry Daddy it was my idea to go swimming!'
I suggested that all those kids peeing in the pool seemed a much bigger health issue that the odd pubic hair and no-one was stopping that but all that got was a lot of Gallic shrugging!

We got caught out by the same insane French rule about 10 years ago. I asked why and was told that that swimming shorts allow pubic hair to escape into the water but budgie smugglers don't..... which, of course, explains why it looks like a hairdressers floor when people remove their budgie smugglers in the changing room!

That's one funny story Dave!! Last time we stopped there we used the yacht club on the other side, which had just had a refurb to the showers which are now very posh and the club resteraunt which served very good food. Also much closer to town.
