The bulb has gone in this reading lamp on the boat and I can't figure out how to get it out. The bottom bit just swivels around. The whole thing seems pretty well anchored to the ceiling and I don't want to use excessive force and break it as I bet they are no longer made.

Anyone changed a bulb in one of these?

Is the silver bit threaded where it joins the ceiling fitting? Can you grip that with rubber gloves and turn it, as opposed to the lamp part. It could possibly have become seized with heat.

+1 on likelihood. If it has seized gentle pressure using a rubber strap oil / fuel filter wrench may be the best tool for the job. Two of. One to hold and one to twist

It consists of the lower bit which swivels and the base attached to the ceiling. The Base does not want to move. I can't see if it is threaded but it does have the switch built into it and because of that I wouldn't have thought it should be threaded else the wires would get pulled off.
It's made by Aqua Signal but I only have my phone here and and haven't been able to find a reference to it yet.

Yes thanks everyone. Especially Dougal. Only just got back to boat though so it will have to wait until tomorrow morning now
Fail!
Got the unit off easily, many thanks to forumites posting on this thread. But Force4 wanted £8.65 for one 12V 5W G4 halogen bulb.

So waited until I got home and ordered 5 for peanuts on ebay.:)
