Has anyone owned a pair of these Gortex boots? If so how good are they, do they really keep your feet warm and dry? How waterproof are they? I am thinking of investing in a pair but at £199 they will have to be very good!!

Very simple - fantastic! I have had mine for 5 years plus and they wear like mad. Bearing in mind we use them professionally our 5 years plus is more than the average boater will ever use them.

What's more, and we have just sent a pair back to Dubarry, for £45 they complete refurb them. New Gortex inner liner and resoled.

You can buy cheaper, but ................................

I've got a pair of Dubarry Ultima boots. I resisted for years as I saw them as something for racers with all the gear and no idea to wear when hanging out in bars in Hamble.

However one day I had no sailing footware with me and a pair were on special offer.

They are, amazingly, worth the money. They are quite warm (I still wear two pairs of socks including a pair of hiking socks when offshore in early season). Mine are definitely dry. They are comfortable and I'm far more likely to wear them that I used to be with the old rubber wellie style seaboots.

£199 is expensive though. Look around & try haggling.

worth every penny !.. first pair of shamrocks lasted me 10 years... just invested in a pair of ultima.....

once you've got a pair their's no alternative ! I paid £179 for my ultima before xmas in the new colour blue / grey not the brown.

Quayside do some for a lot less. Still leather and waterproof/breathable. I have a pair and they are great - can't claim that I have given them a lot of harsh use but to be frank I didn't see the difference in price reflected in quality when I was looking and bought mine. Around £70 as I recall.

i sent the Stbd boot back + my very old Pr of Shamrocks ( i think they had tightened-up) all stretched one size foc within a week .

Mine certainly wear well but I do not like them for two reasons.

They are not as warm as the traditional Gill boots I wore previously. Whereas I could wiggle my toes to keep warm in the Gills, the goretex boots are too tight a fit to do this.

Second, the soles are comparatively stiff and do not 'mould to the deck' in the way that the rubber boots do.

Love them. Mine have had pretty hard wear over 3 years and still going strong. During one rather nasty trip I wore them continuously - day and night - for nearly 5 days, and even at the end of that my feet were still OK and comfortable.

Thanks for all your comments. I have been talked into it. Just bought a pair of Ultima's today and went for a walk in the snow, fantastic, feet warm and dry. looking forward to wearing them on the boat. Got a good deal at swindlery (is that possible) at Port Solent

Then buy the right size lol

My Dubarry ultimas have been going a few years now and still are very good.
But I have to say my new Dubarry fastnets that santas elves made for me are fantasticly warm and gripppy a bit more flexible than the ultimas and longer up the leg. I dont know if they will last as long as the ultimas though..
:)

worth every penny, use mine all year round when teaching out on RIBS, I wear them with just with one pair of thick socks, they are warm, dry and a super comfortable fit.

I did think twice about the price but you get what you pay for and they are worth it.
