DSC VHF with built-in GPS

Chris, great to see you again recently. I would agree with Boomshanka. I went the seperate route with a small cobra and garmin etrex. It wasnt that difficult a job and allows full use of the GPS which I doubt would be included in the combined unit. Let me know if you go the seperate route and need a hand with the wiring, Alan

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the reply. I know the NMEA bit is not difficult, but just wondered if anyone had slipped one of those puck type GPS units into a VHF case to make life a little easier. Might take you up on the offer though, cheers.

My concern is though that if the unit packs up then you lose the lot.

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Looking at the advert I see that it does indeed have all the 'bells and whistles'
You would have thought they would have used that as a tag line /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As VHF radio's most likely is mounted in the saloon/cabin, an external GPS antenna is needed for good reliable reception !!!

I think you will find that this set is only available in the US. Not type approved for Europe, but I'm sure Jon Brooks will be along later to confirm or deny! To my knowledge, there is no set available in UK which has a built in GPS.

These are the only SH fixed sets available in UK
