DSC & AIS

makes more sense to combine ais with a plotter - that way they share the expensive compnents like the screen. bulk produced radio chips are very cheap these days, and I doubt there would be any worthwhile saving from combining with the DSC radio.

Been looking for very same thing, Navicom have just launched a combined DSC/AIS VHF with a remote handset for around £350 see Navicom a seamarknunn This looks to be really good value, also the ICOM 505 and 605 now output AIS data as well but they have not updated their website to show the details yet.

Only worry I have re the Navicom is that the remote handset is wireless and I'm convinced I'll end up loosing it overboard /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

But if you go overboard with it and act quickly enough you'd be able to issue a Mayday /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

If oyu are interested in the Navicom unit I suggest to check the physical availability of the radio, as I know a couple of people in France having ordered it and not yet received it

Navicom own site says "Soon available"
