Do I put back window with lashings of new silicone gunge of my choice only,or do I also need some sort of rubbery tape twixt alloy window frame and fibre glass ?

Dunno really. Some say it should be in compression. So if using gorilla snot (silicone sealant) then let it set before tightening bolts/screws the last 1mm. Then tighten em. If using a strip of rubber gasket, then obviously it wil be compressed anyway.

But dunno if all this is really necessary, it might be ok just applying GS normally, unless you're going round the horns. PBO forum might know

Been hoping that someone living where it rains a lot ie.HLB or LJS could answer this one or failing that an expert on leaks such as a S.........e owner could chip in/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

There was a thread a while ago. Maybe on PBO cant remember. Anyway folks mentioned some sort of tape. Would have thought sylicon bead round, then leave to go a bit stiff before screwing.

Did the front windows on my P32 last year. Laid goodly fillet of silicone sealant onto fibreglass all round then placed window in position and screwed up loosely. Tightened screws fully a few days later. Worked fine and certainly a bl**dy siight better than the linseed oil putty some prat had used previously! No signs of any leaks over winter.

Re: raising the tone

He's not lowering it, rather got the impression he was trying to raise it.

Anyway Oldgit, it hasn't rained on my boat for weeks, although it did have considerable amounts of sea spray over her today! I think I will always suffer from the dreaded window pox, have used sikaflex which has improved matters but not a complete cure /forums/images/icons/frown.gif
