Glad to see that Bristol Arms has reopened!

I bought a round of drinks at the Shipwreck last week for £14 the same round at the West Mersea YC cost just over £8
Best fish and chips and freshest oysters ever at West Mersea oyster bar and delicious house white at £13 per bottle great value as was the meal.

If you want to try somewhere else give Sarah at the Rose Inn a call on 01473 787 237.
Say you are from the YBW East Coast Forum
If there is a small party of you and she is not rushed off her feet she will pick you up from Shotley Gate and drop you back later.

Good food, Nice atmosphere.

No connection, just a happy customer.

We thought the Shipwreck food was awful a couple of weeks ago. Over-priced and not pleasant. We won't eat in there again until we receive good reports here.

Do the management realise that it has gone to pot? Everything else at Shotley seems so good that this is a real negative.

Glad to hear that there is an alternative or two. Perhaps Sarah should buy a bus :D

She has a mini bus that she has said she can get a resonable number of people in.
She will pick-up and retern from the end of the Marina's private road.
She came and collected 3 of us on Saturday.
Give her a call on 01473 787 237

To be frank, the food wasnt that great at the shipwreck and portions miserly in her time there, although, to be fair, that might have been a managment directive. She and her team were always excellent

I haven't eaten at the Shipwreck since the new team took over so can't comment on that. Drinks seem very expensive tho.

Has anyone mentioned it to Shotley and/or directed them to this forum?

Went there in July and was underwhelmed by the service and raucous bar staff the one who served me being particularly dim for some reason.

Got to say I thought I had been shortchanged until I realised what the bar prices actually were. Food was average to poor in quality. Whilst it was never brilliant there, it has gone downhill.

Shame really because it's a lovely location to sit and have a beer. I guess the passing trade is not enough to sustain lower prices and better food?

Just had a PM reply from Biff
He will make sure that the Shotley management are aware of the concerns being raised here and elsewhere.

If they dont get there act together on the food it's gonna cost them berth holders..

I ain't gonna pay thousands a year and not have anyplace to eat. It's one of the essential services...

We are quite bummed out about how **** it is.

Fox`s Club have a good inexpensive menu ( mains / specials £5.50) now & the beer is still good

Went to the Bristol Arms - Oh dear! Main courses about £10.95 Steak was an eye watering £17 or was it £18 I was in shock so I cannot recollect

Portions ok in size but it was just not worth it, I had the steak burger and was told that they cooked it pink was that ok, this sounds good I thought! Yes please I said, then this charred overlooked thing that was falling apart arrived in a ciabatta bun it tasted ok though, just a bit disappointing, 'Her indoors' had dressed crab, which arrived with about 6 new potatoes and what looked like wilted spinach, ' how unusual I remarked' then she said that it was the salad!

Speaking as I find

quality seems a very variable thing...

Ate at Kovalam on Saturday evening - despite recent posts, the food was excellent (as we've previously experienced) and the unusual variety of S Indian curries still a welcome change from the run-of-the-mill CTM etc.

The shipwreck, this afternoon served us a very acceptable meal - I had sausage egg & chips - all up to scratch, and Susanna had the beef in red wine pie which was OK if not brilliant. We feel, and felt too under previous management, that they do the bar menu very well, and struggle with the more adventurous dishes.

I'm sure others aren't wrong - I just wonder why the quality varies so much?
