Drinking Water

General ecology, do a filter you can tap into your main water line, seperate little tap for drinking water, excellent system, dont need to worry about the tankls, just flush them now and again. The filters are replaceable I get about 100 litres from each filter before it becomes clogged. It takes out damn near everything in the way of germs. I use it in the meddy and the water quality down there is not too good, never had aproblem, and I had the water tested once. They advertise in some of these magazines, you should be able to find them.

Nope, not "pot perm" which, if I remember, makes water turn purple. These small off-white pellets didn't do that at all, and they cam in a plain brown envelope (so to speak).

That's true it does make the water purple and you must flush through several times. Even then there's a vague purple hint to the water but by god the water tastes super and whether its coffee or tea it tastes delightful. Anyways tap water is far safer than bottled.

So in conclusion. We are all still here. No matter the method.
Even those chucking all sorts of chemicals in the water have survived.
So I'll just carry on doing nowt.

Seriously, I would like to thank all for a very useful exchange of views. I suspect that I wil continue with my current practice if for no other reason than it seems to work well and as swmbo is a health professional I tend to defer to her judgement in such matters!

Interesting that this particular thread has attracted so little drifting............

For over 7 years we have been using water from our 70US gal tank to drink, wash shower etc with no ill-effects. Some years back I did give the tank a rinse with a chlorine-based cleaner but it took me so long to remove the Cl smell, I've never bothered since. We do have a filter on the tap in the galley to remove Cl. And we live in Florida where "stuff" grows everywhere. Some of the bottled stuff is less "pure" than water from the tap.

Have always used straight from tank, 550 gall, once a year a handfull of ordinary portland cement into tank to "freshen it"... no ill effects so far.

Just been down to the boat at Berthon - what a gorgeous sunny, calm day!

Saw Dave Street (Yard Manager) and asked what the white granules were that he used to clean and sterilise my water tank. He told me it was a chlorine based chemical the MOD had given Berthon to test on some of the MODs 'infected' water tanks. All the tanks, when treated with this, were able to be given the MODs 'OK for drinking water' badge.

But by gum, the granules were strong - my 40 gallon tank only needed 1 level teaspoonful of the stuff, and it was flushed out 10 times.

The twitch will be gone soon, so my doctor says....

We try not to drink from tanked water, refilling the tanks from a hose, and (after a load of water gone through pipes filing up the tanks) then fill up the water bottles. Don't think theres a real problem, but the tank water tasted awful for at least first season or two from new boat, all plasticfied taste. Think we use tankawater for brushing teeth in the loos, but it does seem to taste rather like mints? Oh and I always use Evian or Vittel water bottles, cos otherwise it looks a bit cheap.

The new boat does have a watrmaker, probably adding to the wariness of drinking water out of the tank. If your really worried get one of those Britax (?) water purifeier thingys with a carbon filter and have nice cups of tea with no scum on top.

We also always use a carbon filter on the filler hose which helps with a better taste

God, Its amaising. Is there anything else that can be said about a product that we quite happily sent a bucket down a well for, only a few years ago. The F--- Stuff had been sat there for thousands of years and most still is, was, and you want to exchange it for stuff you got a couple of weeks ago!!
Your prefer to drink Buxton spring water, than out of your own fresh water tap!! Oh well, It amaising what marketing can do!!
Now with my fish pond, the idea is to get as much algie growth as possible. This promotes good and healthy water.
