I am wondering if anyone has any experience in using one of these things

or similar to spray gelcoat. Are they worth a try? It might save a lot of time and money for those who keep their boat away from electricity.

Wagner have a good rep and I have similar kit (HVLP) to spray assorted paints. BUT, gelcoat is quite thick and I wonder if it works with HVLP. I have sprayed it with conventional high pressure guns, but using suitable nozzles.

I to doubt that a Wagner HVLP would spray Gelcoat, I have Fuji HVLP and have sprayed varnishes and water based paints through a variety of nozzles but all required thinning to a viscosity far below that of gelcoat.

Gel coat is thixotropic, you want it to stay on non horizontal surfaces and retain some semblance of an even thickness. It is sticky gooey stuff to push.

I have used HVLP quite a lot in house painting but we had a 5hp Honda engine(!) pumping the water based paints.
I can’t see the OPs machine being designed to do anything beyond a bit of light paint or fence spraying , sorry.

Perhaps ask a boatyard spray booth what they use ?

Thanks for the replies- and apologies. It turns out I linked the wrong product. I edited my post above, now with the correct link. I meant to ask for opinion on sprayers that you can attach on a cordless drill. However from the responses I expect that these won’t be recommended either.
