Drawing on imray charts

Quote from back of chart "It may be drawn on in both soft pencil and ballpoint pen".

Either works well, although I prefer the pencil (2B).

I use ordinary 2B pencils without any trouble. HB don't work as well, and crucially are difficult to rub out completely, so I have banished them from the boat to ensure that those who know no better don't use them on the charts :)

Fortunately SWMBO is an artist and uses 4B , 5B and 6B pencils. I find these are much better than 2B for chartwork on IMRAY charts as I do not have to press on so hard to get a legible mark. Downside is you need to sharpen more often but to be honest I usually drop them before they are blunt.

For my Imray C10 chart of the Western English Channel I used 'Fablon' (which I've had for over 30 years and it's still sticky!), which enables you to use a Chinagraph or wax pencil to mark your route or progress. I actually drew the preferred routes which I disected with 4 and 5 mile intervals before laminating. Easy for marking your hourly fixes. I hope the image shows below.
