DP-E steering pin

he suspects the steering pin is leaking, that looks like part of the external helmet, can that actually leak into the boat ?

Yes, but I'd be surprised if it's in any significant quantity given you have greased it up. When last were the bushing's changed and is there any play in the helmet ?

Other parts that can leak include gear shift cables if the "snorkel" (forgive me I am not sure what the correct name for the sheath that goes through the transom is called) is loose or the top below water level. The exhaust elbow bellows if there is lip corrosion, any of the transom shield bellows and water intakes if loose including the transom shield.

Hi all

VP guy just checked out my drive for water ingress when going astern
the top bearing is well greased

2 bushes support the steering helmet , a seal sits below the bottom bush , grease should stop it leaking unless the seal is destroyed or the wire spring no longer exists .
