Downloading Navionics HD maps

I'm posting this because I find Navionics online support a bit opaque and can't find anything in FAQs.

I downloaded Navoinics HD app onto an Android tablet (Samsung). Purchased UK, Holland and Ireland chart but when trying to download said charts from within the app, a sort of crop tool comes up on screen; no matter how much I stretch the area, it only covers a small part of the total covered by that chart option? Is there something I'm missing here?

Also, if you have the free boating HD app plus aforementioned chart package, is Navionics + an additional package and are its features worthwhile?

If you really want to download the whole lot you have to zoom the map out. It would be huge. Usually I just select the rectangle / zoom to my cruising area plus 100 miles or so, and download that.

You can access the whole chart whilst online without downloading it. You only need to download the part of the chart you will need when out of WiFi/signal range.

The technique is to use the rectangular selection tool to progressively download your areas of interest bit by bit. It doesn't matter how much overlap you have as the app won't duplicate sections of the chart on your tablet. I have the med downloaded on my tablet and as Scala says it's quite large - about 1.25 gb. For updates it will update all the areas you've downloaded - no need to use the selection tool again.
