We were going to cross to Calais at the weekend from Ramsgate, with 2 guests who had never been on a motor boat before. The forecast fog patches rain no wind.Thought We`d cruise down to Dover refuel contact coast guard & go.
We left ramsgate 10 .A.M. Saturday well what a pea souper sea like a pond. Visibility less than half a mile headed for the B2 Buoy using our electronic plotter & radar. Passed Deal pier but didn`t see it approached Dover entrance East followed Seafrance Provence in refuelled by the way 35p litre Dover now.(Where did that come from 26p 3 weeks ago.) 38p @ Ramsgate.Contacted coatgusrd for cross channel forecast and the kind gentleman on duty asked us not to go as the fog was all the way across the channel and the lanes were bow to stern with slow moving commercial vessels. So it was a disastrous night in Dover Facilities closed for refurb didn`t help and a disastrous take away.(Disgusting chinese I`ll tell the name if requested although they delivered to the boat)To cap it all well i`m not telling u lot your`ll never let me live it down.Put it this way I am now nicknamed diesal Dave. Next morning peasouper back to Ramsgate and lo & behold Sunday afternoon beautiful sunshine. Oh us motorboaters do love to suffer. (This is now my new slogan)Motorboaters do loike to suffer. 3rd time this year I`ve given up boating. Can`t wait till next weekend

Re: How much ??

I can let you know next time I arrange for a tanker. Usually about 18ppl. Although last time was an outrageous 21ppl.

The harbour officially charge a £25 bunker fee, but they forget most of the time. And you have to go alongside the commercial quay, but it's easy to save £100 if you take 1000 litres.

We didn't go anywhere this time coz of the fog and some debilitating hangovers! Serves us right for going out drinking with Clive & Caroline from Ocean Hunter.

We hope to nip over to Boulogne next weekend. Weather permitting. Might even find this restaurant that Byron keeps going on about.

Should be a good tip coming from Byron as he looks like a man who is no stranger to a knife and fork.

<font color=blue>Next time I'm there I hope you are ready for some fuel because I will order up at the same time as you.
Do the harbour office know its cheaper in Dover? I thought they were going to keep on par with them.
BTW. I use my fingers to eat

<font color=blue>I think the place is called Peche des Etaples or sumfink and it is located in the square where the big church is on the left as you look up the hill, it is set back into a shop that sells fish during the day.
Say hello to Jean Pierre for me - important.

Re: Pink Water?

Diesel in the water tank can be a nightmare to get rid of properly. You may have discovered this already!

A poster hereabouts by the name of Piers managed a similar feat, and he had to endure photos in the magazines as a result. I think he used a variety of chemicals to clean out the system, after taking professional advice.

We will probably cross the channel to Boulogne on Friday afternoon. Hope to see you there. The weather looks good at the moment, the weekend can't come soon enough.
