Double bed on a boat

Is there such a thing as a below 35 foot boat with a a double bed that has access from the sides and a couple of berths for occassional guests? It seems daft that to get a decent double berth you have to buy a big yacht.

I ask because the old atheritis is going to preclude clambering into a V berth soon.

It seems daft that my Sadler 29 has six berths but I wouldn't want to have six on board.

Or maybe someone could re-design the interior?
 
Southerly 110 comes pretty close.... Moody 336 as well.... Moody 346- aft cabin has a full length side access rear berth...
 
We Have a Sadler 26, and after a couple of years of growing daughters arguing about being on the wrong side of the forepeak berth, particularly when going upwind, we had to change things. It was a bit sad when the youngest one was found clinging to the shelving, trying not to invade the elders space in a strong wind! We left one daughter at the front, one in the quarter berth, and us in the middle. We made a wooden inset to fill between the two centre berths, and infilled with cushions to make a transverse good double bed. You can't get round it, you have to climb over it, but we have found that it makes a very comfortable bed.

This is obviously in the way in day time, but has solved a lot of problems for us, and aren't Sadlers great boats!!
 
I dont think there is access from both sides on any of the boats i mentioned... but they all have nice big comfy beds with sideish access....

Oh, I see the OP wanted access from the sides (Plural) which I took too mean either... versus both....

It would be good wouldnt it??? we have a pretty good aft cabin but I always get the "coffin" side.... and swmbo doesnt like the little window open... and I like a little stream of fresh air...
Core what I wouldnt give for a proper bed.... in fact two on board would be good.

My 26ft boat has 2 doubles with single side access to each in private cabins, or a massive double + double if I remove the partition, giving both sides access.

She also has a queen size bed in the saloon with the table dropped between the benches.

It's not possible you say?
 
Double bed ... you also need to consider headroom as well for ... yenno..

Voile & Voiliers did an article many years ago on the suitabilty of cruising boats for...yenno...

When will YM do one?

I'm beginning to wonder about the suitability of cruising boats for cruising.

I look with interest at the reviews of today's boats - 40 - 45 foot deck saloons seem to be all the rage just now. Interiors all very similar. Many seem to have no single berths at all and those that do only have them in the forepeak. Do the owners of these boats ever sail overnight? Is the notion of a decent sea berth completely outmoded? The forepeak is not a good place to be in a seaway and neither is a double berth, unless it has some sort of central leecloth arrangement as well as a conventional one on the inboard side.

With their wide open spaces and pedestal doubles, I'm sure these boats are fine little apartments for marina living, but I don't think I would want to do much passage making in one of them. Nothing against double berths or yenno, but if I were in the market for a different boat, which I am not, I would definitely want one at least one proper sea berth in the proper postion, which is amidships.

33 LOA, KINGSIZE master berth. With loads of access from one side and views out accross the anchorage/the stars from your bed. 5 additional berths if you are cramming them in or 3 extra with "loads" of room.

Answer ? Catamaran.

- in our case a Prout Quest 33. Even the Prout 31 has a double. I am sure loads of other cats would too. You did ask and didn't specify you only wanted a half cat...

Been looking as well. Only one I've come across so-far with access both sides is a Westerly Oceanquest (and probably the Seahawk as well) but there are other aspects of these boats I don't like. The Moodys of this size have one-sided access only from what I've seen (336, 34, 346, 35).
