Dont know how deep to have my outboard!

The picture in the link is of quite a big boat for an o/b I expect your boat is smaller

[/ QUOTE ] Yes the drawing of a 16.75m boat is rather confusing. It would certainly be impractical to power that one with an outboard especially on that transom. It would also need much more than 9.9hp.

Matnoo's profile talks of a 6.8m boat, which I misread as 8.6m. That being the case then my suggestion that an extralong shaft outboard would be an advantage is rubbish. In fact a long shaft will be ideal but it need not be as big as 9.9hp. 5 or 6 will be enough and 8 ample. At 50 kilos that Yamaha is way too heavy IMHO.

Your variable height bracket is ingenious and I suppose a swing down bracket like mine could be modified to have intermediate positions between up and down but it sounds a bit of a fiddle to keep adjusting it. What I would like is a bigger range as it could do with going a bit deeper at times but also could do with lifting a bit higher so that the prop could be lifted competely clear of the water.

That is a common problem ... have often seen people mount bracket to suit one way or another and suffer at other extreme. Seems manufacturers don't account for waves / boat movement in design.
Set it deep and prop still in water when lifted ... Prop out of water when lifted and not set deep enough. (Talking non-tilted here ....)

Getting a Cantilever bracket to set different heights is only a matter of putting extra slots in the lift arm ...
