Dont get too close to a warship

Re:Is it just me

that takes a distorted view of things.

Or will Al Qeada people be laughing their socks off at this sort of reaction.

And if - God forbid - someone does develop a twitchy trigger finger and kill a(nother) innocent bystander won't that be just another trophy for them.

There was never this sort of reaction to PIRA who were described at the time as "the best terrorists in the world"

There is something very very strange going on in this country.

Re:And another thing

I'm getting really pi55ed off with these police chiefs telling us that being bombed by these retards is inevitable.

It isn't!

All these pathetic bobbies are doing is encouraging them to have another go.

We have security and intelligence services that are there to make sure that it isn't inevitable - and they manage to lose track of one of the main proponents of terrorism until he appears like a rabbit from the hat in Lebanon.

I can't help feeling that the process the government are using is to spread hysteria to hide the simple fact that they have played the PC card so long and so foolishly that they are now completely unable to manage the situation.

Reminds me a bit about the thread on recklessness. This lot must now be close to being criminally negligent in the way they are handling things.

They are now complaining that the judges are using the Human Rights laws and should'nt do it if Tony doesn't want them to. Conveniently forgetting that it was the same Tony that made the Human Rights legislation a part of English Law and most certainly not mentioning how much hard cash his hideous wife has made from cases brought under that same legislation.

God but I'm angry.

Will somebody please explain why QHM is using a channel that we dont listen to, cause we are all on channel 16 (listening for the normal radio checks!)

When I'm in the Portsmouth harbour area on my radios, fixed and H/H, I selectively scan more than one channel. So I can listen for info on 11 and 16, plus any other channels that may be of use.

Agree, it's not that onerous to monitor Ch11.

I'm sure we all have handhelds. Approaching or passing Porsmouth switch it on Ch11 and listen. You can keep the main set on 16.

I find this better than dual watch as it's confusing to know which channel you're listening to.

... and just occasionally it can get quite interesting when things have not quite worked out right.

As to the measures taken to fend off a boat identified as hostile, having the odd Exocet streaking around Spithead now and then could liven things up quite considerably!

On a slightly more serious note, its worth bearing in mind the QHMS jurisdiction - and presumably therefore the new regulations - extends well west of Lee on Solent, and covers the whole of the eastern Solent across to the Island and right out to the Nab, so these rules apply well beyond the confines of the Portsmouth Dockyard waters as such.

Re: What do I do if ?

As above, I guess it would never actually be a problem. Certainly on the Clyde when big kit was about to come & go then all sorts of auxiliary craft cleared the way ages before anything happened. So, no worries, enjoy the show, seeing the big guys in action is one of the treats of the game.

I remain on friendly waving terms with the MOD Plod in Portsmouth harbour on the grounds that they have a boring and repetitive job, patrolling day and night. If they see you and recognise you as a regular, you are less likely to be seen as a threat. Today however there were at least two very fast ribs running in the Solent and into Pompey harbour and they would have given me unease, as nothing would have caught them, as the MOd Plod boats are severe displacement.
My VHF switches from 16 to 11 and back on a regular basis, and is programmed to do so.

Re:And another thing

Go on then, how would you track every conceivable possible bomber in Britain, given that most of them fly under 'radar'. I'm sure the police and other forces would be relieved to know you have a foolproof method that no one else has thought of as yet?
