Dolphin engine rant

Dougy, probably best to talk to manufacturers regarding plug spec. Too hot and can burn holes in piston crown, too cold will oil up. Plug temperature is fairly critical on 2 strokes.

As a long term motorcyclist, back in the day I had a Yamaha RD200 that would chew through the better quality Bosch plugs in a couple of hundred miles where the NGK's would last a couple of thousand. Champion wouldn't last the ride home.... so don't be surprised at the idiosyncrasies of 2 strokes and plug makes.

Sailed in a boat with a Dolphin it never missed a beat and started in reverse every time.
my professional experience with them other wise was that they were the most useless lumps and to be avoided as neither we nor the customer were happy at the bill to sort them
The difference was the engine was taken out and at least the electrics went back to the factory ever year did not stop me suffering every time we changed direction or went to start it

The LPG conversion warranty was only valid on my Citroën DS if I used NGK plugs.

I used to have a 30hp 3 cylinder 2stroke Yamaha on my boat and the plugs kept oil up due to long hours at low revs. I used a slightly hotter plug and the engine was fine. The servicing dealer even replaced them, like for like when they serviced the engine as everything was in order with the engine.

Great response again and latest update...motored round to air show and back and round brownsea, never missed a beat!!! Ordered champion n5c plugs as the guy I bought the boat off had it since new and used champion n5 so I'll stick with them, I just wondered if the copper core made a difference.

It's my first year with a Dolphin and I plan to take it out at the end of the season for an overhaul so your stats will be right 1 year and out once :-)
