Doing our first night aboard on Saturday

Have you sorted your A/F yet ?
You can buy some mega expensive stuff but is does not seem any better than the cheap stuff.
By the way you know you must buy some special A/F stuff for the leg err...Tri -lux or some such.
It comes in tins about the same size as your other halfs face cream...but cost 10 times as much.
Does about as much good. :)
Available in all sorts of hideous colours.
You cannnot use ordinary hull af cos its got copper innit.
You must leave a 25mm gap around outdrive transom assembly and hull af coating .
Welcome to world of outdrives :)

Thanks Fred, yes, had discovered that.
I think we're going to forget about the anti-foul and just Gold plate the thing. Be a lot cheaper!

Hi Merv
Forgive me for butting in (this is my 1st post) but until last year I was moored at Elmhaven, just upstream from you for 7 years and initally had the same problem after my 1st season afloat. VP wanted about £80 for this part, eventually got it from Coastal Rides for about £45 (i think, but it was a while ago) also bond the bar to one of the swivel tilt bolts. I used a bit of 4mm wire and a couple of large ring crimps with adhesive heat shrink, and have had no further problems. check the electrical continuity with a meter set on resistance setting, and ensure a good connection. The degradation of the bar is due to no more than electrolyctic action.
Hope this helps.
Regards
David

Hi Merv
Regarding your rotten set pin, which I am assuming is the one on the transom plate of a 270 leg,. I had this in my 1st season several years ago whilst moored on Elmhaven, next marina upstream from you, it is due to electrolyctic action, and there is no option but to replace. I found Coastal Rides at the time best price at around £45ish. Once replaced there are a couple of steps to ensure this does not happen again.

1. After replacing set pin, connect a 4mm bonding wire between it and one of the swivel pin tilt bolt. I used large crimp terminals with adhesive heat shrink over.

2. Inside the boat, locate the flange where the lift assembly joins the transom plate, there should be a couple of bolts holding this on, if there is a wire here, check it ,if one is not present, connect a similar wire from one of these bolts to the negative bus bar/ battery/ engine earth, or negative side

3. After doing all of this ensure good electrical connection between all these points, using a multimeter on resistance range.

Hopefully this will all help, and of course don't forget to check/replace bar/ring and tab anodes if you have them.

Regards

David

Thanks David, and apologies for my late reply, that's extremely useful thank you.
We have sourced the part, can't remember off hand now where from as my good lady Wife ordered it but it was IRO £50.00 with free delivery so not too bad.
Will certainly look into the wiring mod, I did wonder how the bar had managed to virtually completely disappear.
Anything to avoid a reocurrance can only be a good thing!

Thanks again,

Chris

Ooops.... should have phrased that a bit better,

About as much good as MY wifes face cream,,,H,mm not sure thats not just got me out of the frying pan and into ........... :):)(:)

My Wife registered on here a couple of days ago as well, only a matter of time now  ... tick tock tick tock tick tock...

:D

I see she has introduced herslf on the Mobochat forum, are you not going to tell her about this one :D

No, I think we'll keep this one quiet.
Never good when ones better half sees the true cost of some items before "man maths" adjustment comes into play.

Tick tock tick tock tick...
