Rob,

Sterling make two battery to alternator chargers, a 90 and a 160amp. As our boat has two 50A alternators I considered buying the 90A but in the end was offered a good deal on the 160A as they had one in stock. This was probably a good decison although I've never witnessed more than about 40A so far.

Installation required a considerable amount of hefty cable, at some expense given the price of copper, but was easy to figure out from the comprehensive information supplied. I probably over-egged it a bit but my fear of overheating cables leading to fires etc rather ensured I did it once and properly, for reliability and safety.

Although Sterling do supply a remote management panel I didn't like the look of it and decided to go for the BM1 from Nasa. I don't regret it for a minute, it's a great bit of kit and I know exactly what's going on at all times. I think it was also cheaper then the Sterling remote...

I'm not sure what else I can tell you but so far it's been a successful installation and is living up to all the promises and expectations. The only thing I would say is to warn you to do your research before buying, as Sterling sell a number of similar sounding products. Chandlers will try to sell you what they have rather than what you want. I have not found the B to A charger as readily available compared to other products so always best to check by phone first.

Good luck - and go for it!
