Our JR doesn't like the water. He won't even walk through puddles if he can help it!
When I take him for a walk we go past a lake where all the dogs go in and he walks straight on. He did go in once inadvertently , he was chasing another dog. When he found himself in the water he couldn't get out fast enough!
I don't worry about him falling overboard though, I'm sure he could do the doggy paddle!

Being a Labrador getting wet isn't a problem for Honey although she isn't keen on hosepipes - that's another story! Most dogs only need a handle so we got her a basic one so that she wouldn't get too hot in it:

It's getting them out again. Our JR cannot climb a 20' ladder or stone quay wall, but I can hoick her out by the handle on her lifejacket. It's also good for getting her in & out of the dink/ boat. I can also get her up & down the ladder using the handle.

Bad news though. I've discovered a tumour the size of a gob stopper on a front paw.
Op scheduled for next week.

Okay, I'll join in, just to practice how to attach a photo, though I definitely don't recommend a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as a boat dog. She hates it!

On seeing the first picture of the O.P's dog my first thought was no wonder he doesn't like it far too restrictive. the smaller version looks a far better fit. Hope he's not still growing.

Tell me about it. Our daft boxer jumped off the wall at Bembridge a few years back, thinking that the mat of duckweed was solid ground. Trying to get down the wall and hold on while trying to grab her by the collar and hoick her out while she kicked and struggled was a nightmare.

Our girl likes to swim, but she's not actually very good at it. More particularly she's not very good at steering, so she's as likely to head away from the shore as back again.
