Does unopened Sikaflex go off?

Yes, 3M 5200, and arbothane 1240 both have longer shelf lives.
I was told that's why they preffered to stock 3M in Trinidad as the heat made Sika go off quicker, seeing as it goes off with moisture the wet wetaher here could be worse.

I've used an unopened cartridge well past it's use-by date (a good year past) and it seemed to work fine. It wasn't in a highly-stressed application though - more of a sealing job.

Not very relevant to folk in Scotland in winter time, but the bottom shelf of my fridge is full of various opened tubes of glue and sealant - I keep unstarted ones there as well, after buying a brand new tube of 5200, and some (considerable admittedly) time later finding that it had gone solid.
Keeping the stuff cool does seem to improve the shelf life.

[long sucking intake]....are you sure you want to use an out of date sealant on a thru hull bolt, if it leaks you will be very pissed and for that small job you can get the small tubes of sika [100 ml I think?]

Old tubes of Sikaflex go solid and there's no chance of getting the stuff out of the tube let alone do anything useful with it. Apart from covering yourself with the sticky goo.

I keep sika in the freezer - never had a tube set yet

When I pointed out that the stock was 1 month out of date, the chandleryremoved the stock and said he wouldn't stock it again and advides Arbocol(?). Says Sika goes off very quickly after the sellby date.

I just used some today the sausage type,been in the locker for years,"use by oct 2005"it seemed ok nice and flexible and soft,it was used to bed some screws in,i have 4 more in the locker all with the same date.

Avoidable through-hull leaks should definitely be avoided . . .

Second that - I keep all my sealants in the freezer. They all seem to last forever, silicones as well, even part used tubes. Not seen any deteriation in performance either after warming up.
