....wake up this morning, with GR happily bobbing up and down in her berth, and wonder if it's all been a bad dream?

Can life ever be that simple for calamity James?

I'm sure we will find out very soon.

Hope everything went well Jimi, enjoy the summer.

Steve.

So did you go for an 'evening sail' to test her out?

The wind was picking up when I left the marina at 1800 and the rain would have got down the back of your collar, sooner or later.

Nope, scrubbed the accumulated detritus off the decks before Andy and his missus dragged me out the rain and plied me with tea ... sorry for dripping all over your nice deck, Andy!

Couple of friends took delivery of their 23 foot cat at Langstone yesterday afternoon, and set off for their mooring in Chi Harbour evening. Capsized Hayling Bay and spotted by CG lookout, rescued by Portsmouth lifeboat and boat abandoned. One hull and various other bits found on the beach by West Pole this morning.

For sale. Catamaran, half price. Some bits missing.

Who said education is expensive?

There is expensive and then there is EXPENSIVE, depending on whether the insurance had been set up in advance !!

Hope they weren't hurt themselves - apart from their pride, I suppose.

No, fortunately nobody hurt except for pride. I had a call from my mate last night to tell me before I 'heard it from elsewhere'. Also to estimate where the wreckage might come ashore. Sadly, they had not yet arranged insurance.

By this morning, the inevitable black humour had emerged and I was warned that stories of my past misdemeanours could readily be aired by both casualties...

capsize

Do you know how she was capsized, if only on their way to mooring were they motoring or sailing?

Do you know which type of cat?

Re: capsize

It was an International 23 under sail. They had experienced some problems keeping the rudders down whilst sailing which made tacking difficult, and had just tacked when she went over (apparently quickly and without any warning). She started to break up and sink quite soon after. Their partly inflated dinghy floated free but the foot pump was in the submerged hull. They had been in the water about an hour and were getting quite worried when they spotted a RIB heading towards them, turned out it was the Portsmouth lifeboat which launched shortly after 6pm so I guess it would have been around 5pm when they went over in winds of around 20 knots.

They have salvaged the mast and boom intact this afternoon, plus some of their gear courtesy of council workers and beach combers. One hull is on the beach but smashed to small pieces, no sign of the other. Apparently it's been difficult to stand up down at Hayling sea front today!

"Sadly, they had not yet arranged insurance" Shouldn't have been on the water then. Glad they are safe but no sympathy for loss of boat I'm afraid.

I wouldn't imagine that your lack of sympathy is top of their agenda, and an uninformed judgement is rarely worth listening to.

Re: I\'m assuming

He's the only sailor I know that starts packing to go TO the boat as soon as a severe weather banner comes up on MetCheck. With nothing more than a wimpish F5 forecast for the weekend he's already cancelled the sailing.

It has been reported that the boatyard were on a large bonus to get GR ready for yesterdays storm.
