Does anyone make or sell or own a legal anchor ball?

So, where is the best place to get these balls and cones ? I assume they're all the same really ?

A cone only looks like a ball from a viewpoint perpendicular to its base. You could make a motoring cone serve as an anchor ball by mounting it with the point horizontal and rotating it round a vertical axis at sufficient speed for the persistence-of-vision effect to make it appear like a sphere. I would not advise relying on the rotational force described by Saguday in post 13, and of course it would only work with a real cone, not two triangles slotted together.

That said, I don't own an anchor ball. Also an RYS member, no less, once described hoisting one as 'pretentious'. Which I did think a bit rich coming from someone who sails in a yachting cap...

This sounds like the large blue hulled yacht with white ensign and similarly clad individual at the helm that cut across my port bow forcing me to stop to avoid a collision yesterday in the Dart. I imagine the col regs were dismissed as pretentious in this instance and I was probably lambasted for not tugging my forelock.
