Does a D12 - 715 hp have glow plugs ?

I have "random" EVC cautions. The boat is running fine.

Searching google and on here there seem to be 3 culprits

a. one EVC box is faulty. Some have changed at great expense and solved the issue - but the boat was running fine so unless there is a completing reason this seems not a great approach

b. poor connection. I will get some contact cleaner and work from one end to the other

c. Faulty glow plugs - if the engine has glow plugs apparently it fires them up on ignition on and if it does not sense a current flow it reports a general error.

Hence the question do D12s have glow plugs ?

This is EVC A - there are no error codes - it just lights up the caution Triangle and flashes.

If not its out with the contact cleaner and then ignore it!

Thanks

Jeremy

There are no glow plugs on a d12. But like you I get random alerts on my d12s the most recent a faulty fuel pressure sensor which doesn’t effect the way it runs but throws a fault light on the display also previously had oil level faults and water in fuel. Get Tom from total marine to plug his box of tricks in and all will be revealed

Paul, I got a low oil level warning once, turns out there isn't an oil sensor and its a bug in the software. Volvo updated to a new version and it fixed the problem. A year later I had the same problem on the other engine. Turns out volvo didn't think to do both at the same time!

Anyway, fixed the issue for me.

My problem with the oil sensors which are fitted to my engines was that the evc should only look at the sensors before starting and monitor level but apparently my evc was looking while they were running which caused errors when the boat was moving . A software update has allegedly cured this

Ghost oil level warning on models with no sensor is the fact the wiring is there in the loom with an open plug , the last job I had to look at was the fact the plug was dangling in a bilge with sea water in causing it to make contact showing the fault , dried plug and taped up to side of engine , problem solved. No software upgrades as far as I know.
