I measured my docklines when new and they seemed to be 22mm x 15M braided.

OK so its time to buy some new and what to buy.

Checking online 22mm seems rare and expensive.

Is 22mm the right diameter and any ideas of where to go to buy ready made docklines?

Thanks

Richard

22mm is pretty big for a 425. I would use 18mm. Try Jimmy Greens for ready made or they will probably make exactly what you want

I think 22 mm might be conservative. Jimmy Green suggests 18mm (anchorplait/octoplait) for up to 46ft LOA.

I would aim to have at least a couple of warps which were 1.5x LOA plus others of 1X LOA

Avoid those braided ropes too. I've had several fail so only use 3 ply now so I can see the ropes real condition. Octoplait although lovely is difficult to splice if you fancy doing your own.

Anchor plait / Octoplait is normally nylon and stretches too much for mooring lines, nylon can also goes hard with time and exposure to sunlight.

Personally I find large diameter braided rope is very resistant to twisting and I prefer three strand polyester.

Braided premade docklines have a soft unwoven core and if the sheathing is cut they wear very easily, ie they are not good from a wear point of view. I have had these fail.

I have an 18 ton 48ft boat and I use 22mm three strand polyester, which is probably over the top for all except extreme conditions?

Probably for a Sealine F42 I would probably say 18 or 20mm.

I prefer to use rope without eyes and tie bowlines when required.
