Just another screw from the Spanish tax authority to make all transactions traceable and kill a black economy. If it is like most EU states, citizens will just ignore it and continue doing what they have always done.

A relative bought a property in Spain 2 years ago and the sellers wanted the whole payment made the traditional way - in cash. It took a lot of negociation before they accepted a bank transfer. Hence the comment above.

No, according to the link - nothing where the payer or payee cannot easily be identified.

If they're serious, there'll be a small army of tax inspectors trying to pay cash and issuing fines if you accept. All they have to do is offer a commission to employees of the Spanish tax office and they'll double their tax revenues overnight

It's been €1000 in Belgium for a lot of years now.

Plus they are not accepting 5c, 2c and 1c coins in shops in Belgium and of course they round everything up
They are trying to force everyone into paying by card so they can trace every transaction.

Still, there is a lot of zwart werk (cash in hand) going on but they are closing down the avenues that you can pay cash making it less attractive to get cash in hand.
Of course with the HORECA (HOtel REstaurant CAfé) trade closed for the last year a lot of black money is sitting un-used under matrasses.
