Do you have a lifeboat (raft) drill on your boat.

Lots of talk about lifeboat drill regarding Concordia.

Does anyone practice a "Boat Problem" drill on their own boat?

A sequence like cutting away a broken mast.

A sequence for checking sea cocks with water over the cabin sole.

Transmitting a Mayday, cell phone, VHF, SSB on the distress frequency.

Organising an abandon ship bag. (passports, money, etc).

Fire drill. Extinguishers, fireblankets, sea water bucket.

I don't but I will give it some thought for the future.

Perhaps that disposable accident boat YBW uses could list some procedures and test them.

Reading the above sounds a bit OTT. Maybe just play it by ear.

I largely agree with Ken, however if I'm on my own with people who are new to sailing I give them a quick once over re how to call the coastguard, etc in the event that I go overboard. Purely self interest you understand.

My main fear is seeing water sloshing about over the cabin sole. I think I will make a list of things to check, sea cocks, engine hoses, rudder shaft, and the stern shaft thing.

Then play the rest by ear.

You can't back down from this. Now you have identified foreseeable scenarios you have an obligation to perform a full documented risk analysis and probably subject it and all your other boat procedures (in writing) to an ISO9001 audit. Anything less would be an eschewal of duty and responsibility.

Eschewal?

Does that word mean "play it by ear, off the cuff, winging it?
