Up the Yar

I suspect you can go up the Yar as far as poss, get out, walk south, eat an ice cream on the beach at Freshwater while admiring the English Channel, get back in your boat and be back in Yarmouth in time for tea. Do it towards the top of HWS and you won't have very far to walk.

Re: No chance!

I don't expect to run out of variety here.. As I plan to keep the boat Inverness / Moray Firth late Autumn - Spring and then thro the Caledonian Canal to the West Coast or round the Pentland Firth to Orkneys / Shetlands mmmm and Iceland isn't that far is it??? lol ;)

No John, it wasn't MDL - but I really appreciate that you take the time to read and follow up on such comments.

PS I did say MARINE style, and not Marina style

Many thanks

Do you remember my former posts ?

G&T .... that brings back a distant post memory !!

But Rydes OK ..... Council rates, and pleasant walk along the front .... next to one of the biggest sand beaches in the area .... pubs not much cop, not many good eating places except for the Hotel halfway up the hill etc.

But still I like it and she loves it !!!

Funny you should post this topic as I have been in the same frame of mind this season (Chichester-based for 14 years). Now, out of the blue, family ties are forcing a move to Wales. My jam-jar will have completely new waters to explore. I will be living in the Carmarthen area. Any members got any information on cruising + mooring on the south coast of Cymru?.
Thanks. Rab.

How important is your sailing to you? If it is overwhelmingly so then get relocated to the Glasgow area if you are still working. Go anyway if you're not.
Keep your boat anywhere on the W.Coast between Crinan & Oban.
This will give you thousands of quiet anchorages, a reasonable no. of visitor's buoys and two or three marinas. You can sail up here in Summer and probably only see a couple of other yachts a day.
Loads of different routes you can take depending on the wind direction and fantastic scenery wherever you go, often in the company of dolphins and whales.
I dont believe you would ever get bored in this wonderful cruising ground.
The only drawback is the "locals" - they drink a highly addictive spirit and wear dresses. Oh and it doesn't seem to get very warm!

More "dangerous" territory

Ryde is one of those places where you don't see the "swanks" you see at Cowes (OK head-biter-offerer - not EVERYONE who goes to Cowes) well not more than once that is!

Last time we were in there a big motorboat came in at the last tidal minute, took one look and decided to exit smartly. problem was he got stuck on the putty trying to turn so got standed as the tide ebbed. The whole blazered crew had to sit there until the tide came back almost at dusk. Too far from the pontoon to jump ashore and at a precarious angle with their sterngear at risk.

I think that they decided that this experience, coupled with the un-yottie view ashore, brought them to the conclusion that Ryde wasn't the kind of place they were looking for.

Re: More \"dangerous\" territory

But it certainly improves the 'theatre' !!!!

I think that we've all seen some cracking antics of some 'boaters' !!!!!!

Last time in there ... a Westerly had a new BBQ on the pushpit rail ..... guy didn't check wind direction .... wife nicely chpping up salads etc. in cabin, guy lights BBQ ..... next thing is guffs of smoke pouring into cabin etc. !!!! Wife out - sort of conversation then enues bewteen them .... last seen walking different sides of the road to nearest restaurant !!!!!

I only came - cos they said there was FREE Guinness !
