We carry a John Lewis £50 machine. The saleslady said it was a toy and didn't want sell it. Said we could lose a lot of money. Ann replied that she didn't see how she could lose more than £50, and bought it.

It won't do sails. But Ann has made cockpit canopies and a dinghy cover out of light canvas, as well as clothes. The limits are the needles and size of gap to feed material though.

It only weighs a couple of kilo and easily runs off a 300W inverter.

Got a Pfaff Select 4.2 last Cheistmas to do Sunbrella etc. Haven't used loads yet but have just completed a spinnaker pole cover involving up to 5 layers of Sunbrella just fine. It's got a useful 6mm max stitch length, zigzag and others, and I was pleasantly surprised how well Pfaff's itd pseudo walking foot mechanism dealt with the slippery Sunbrella - managed to get away without pinning or basting tape most of it. Definitely coming with us when we go long distance.
