Can anyone make sense of the weather at the mo? Looks like we will be holding back on another day - outlook from BBC Coast is not looking good with Gale 8 size gusts Fri. The question is how many and frequent will they be? Now not sure at all about Clacton Air Show and sitting at anchor with this low hanging around.
Any views?

Never mind there is always next year.

Anchoring off Clacton for 3 hours.. I think not !

Yes indeed!
Usually try and make sensible decisions re forecasts and crew makeup let alone boat thresholds. A delay is inevitable, at least the family will want to get on board if the sun shows up.
I have had enough of near misses with our lightning encounter a week or so back off the Medway. Tends to sharpen your thinking!
Hope to see folk out and about for the weekend.

08.00 - Went down to the coast to take a look at the Wallet, it is breezy, and it does look quite lumpy...nah...I have got a strong stomach, but I think I would draw the line at being pitched about for 3 hours or so...the fish would be well fed!!!

As for tomorrow...well, the forecast doesn't look an awful lot better!

Well i'm no nautical expert but if the wind's blowing from the North East, I think i'd skip sitting off Clacton. I wouldn't be too concerned about my lunch but I wouldn't fancy my boat literally 'yanking its chain' for a few hours.

I'm going

..... but not to Clacton. I'm going to Colchester instead, catching the 9.03 train tomorrow morning, heading to Plymouth. Earlier in the year I was on the crew taking the racing tri Strontium Dog down Channel in May for the start of the Round Britain & Ireland Two Handed Race, and now it's the return leg to Pyefleet.

We will hopefully slip the mooring off the Royal Western Yacht Club about midnight tomorrow, and should enjoy 20 knots up the chuff for most of the trip. Going down was a 60 hour direct hop, averaging 8 knots for the 500 miles, right into the teeth of the wind, but we're hoping for an easier (and quicker) slant home.

I'm reet excited!

Sounds cracking. Enjoy yourself!

Now that sounds like a hoot.
What colour train is it, and are you going first class on a One Way Student Apex Supper Saver 0900 ticket?

You might also enjoy the sailing if the nasty wind goes away.

Youngest son and I have decided on going

to the cinema in Norwich instead :D

Well in the end held off until today (fri) and sitting on a mooring at Wrabness. Wind has dropped significantly. Thinking about possibility of moving on if wind picks up as forecast from NW. Great sunset and moon rise , wind F1.
Where is everyone passed 4 yachts this pm!

Well, for what it's worth, we drove over to watch the display...Battle of Britain flight (as always!) bought tears to my eyes, the Blades Display Team (ex Red Arrows) fantastic...all good stuff...would I have sat in the Wallet for 4 and a quarter hours rolling around like a pig as the 14 boats that were out there were doing? Nope!

Oh well down to the boat now and off to Bradwell to see if any other Hurleys turn up!

We were planning to head down to the Blackwater but with N 6-7 forecast on Sun / Mon we don't see how we'd get back without a really uncomfortable sail. Blast.

Forecast just keeps getting worse every time it's renewed! We have now cried off for the weekend, but had a wee trip down Oare Creek and up Faversham Creek this afternoon to take some pics and see what's changed.
Not been anyway else on the boat now since 31st July. Not happy chaps here....

If it's any consolation Dick we've been on our boat 3 weeks now and haven't gone anywhere either - turned out the injection pump is all crudded up so it's off the boat being sorted :( Other than that we've just about sorted her out ready to go in time for our holiday ending :D

Did get out on the dink with the family today though and explored the saltings in some nice clear sunshine - super!

That's bad luck, but at least you've now found the problem - hope you get sorted soon.
Looking out of the window this morning I'm wishing I was afloat, despite the forecast (which I still don't really believe) but I reckon no.1 crewmember is quietly relieved that we are not.

Well here in sunny Tollesbury it's blowing a good 4-5 so I suspect a bit higher than that in open water. Forecast looks like it's going to be quite pleasant just after my engine is fixed and I'm back at work... :(
