Hello there. I am Nova. I want to know which fish material is more popular. Can u give me an advice?​

When it comes to fishing boats, more and more people are choosing aluminum these days. It’s lighter, easier to maintain, more fuel-efficient, and has a longer lifespan. Fiberglass boats, on the other hand, have smoother and more attractive lines, produce less noise, but are heavier, consume more fuel, and have higher maintenance costs. Overall, everyone has their own preference. If you were to buy a fishing boat, which material would you prefer?

Don't think anybody on this forum would be interested in buying a fishing boat. In the UK aluminium is not common . GRP is dominant although for commercial fishing steel is often used.

I would prefer GRP (fibreglass) as I believe it is easier to maintain than aluminium. If damaged, laminating in repairs is easier than welding aluminium in the context of DIY (do it yourself) repairer. GRP is not at risk from electrolysis or galvanic corrosion. The lifespan of GRP is significant but so is aluminium. As a material GRP can be beautified a lot easier than aluminium. GRP is lower cost to buy on high production boats compared to aluminium.
 
In Nigeria in the 1980s we had small aluminium 14ft dinghys and GRP dorys. Needless to say, the local employees were not particularly careful with the boats.The dorys got broken and smashed but the aluminium dinghys just got bent and kept working. So if you want to mistreat your boat and don't care about appearance then aluminium is the better material.

A grp hull can be good at 50 years. Aluminium may last up to 50 years. I had a 19ft welded open ally boat for 18 years. It often suffered from stress fractures causes by speed and pounding into the waves. Electrolysis can be problematic. Getting it repaired/welded is always a pain.
As a new boat aluminium is strong, light, zero maintenace (as long as its not painted) but once its say 25yrs it can become problematic.
Aluminium dingys are very tough and light but dont spend their life afloat like a larger boat.
I would happily have a ally dingy but for a larger planing boat long te4m would favour grp.
