Do I expect to much !

that was just fun! Showing people around a new area on a boat is not a huge inconvenience :) and as I said at the time, lots of people did that for me when I was a newbie, so that is a favour passed on

I'm actually being very serious for once. They've helped me big time, and they are both top blokes. I don't really know how to thank them, other than publicly, which knowing them both, they'll probably be a bit uncomfortable with

Yes, Sara has applied his huge intellect behind the scenes for me too. A top bloke.
Of course I love Ms Campanula too. I need to meet her over a nice log fire with a pint or 10 and get her to regale me with tales of derring do.

Over the past several months I have been asked to send copies of engine manuals on Cds to several people via Pms.....

This I have done at my expense and without any requirement for those people involved to pay any kind of gratuity. This is ( as far as I'm concerned) why we all come on to this forum "to exchange information" on our pastime.

Ahh, you might now understand my hard line on Flags. PM me they will say on the forum. I dont answer. If you want a flag you PM me.

Cant be bovvered wiv SAE's or stamps. Heres my address.

OK dont have one then (Not said).

Can I pay by Paypal.

No.

I live in Tasmania. I cant get a British stamp. Heres 20 quid for you and Kwackers to buy a drink.

Sorted.

I need nine flags.

OK I'll look round for a big enough bag then.

The idea of the flag, was always for helping each other, or having a party. It was never for folk wanting there engine sorted out FOC.

About 25% of folk asking for flags send a cheque. So for me, thats the only way I can sort out the good guys from the bad.

Asking for an SAE seems to get down to genuine. I nearly always get a thanks.

Littleship I would just like to say thank you on behalf of all the ignoramus's as I wouldn't want to see you go all sour on us.

On the plus side (regarding manners) but not forum connected I once found a rather large red buoy with large SS carbide clip attached floating on the briny. It had a boats name on it so googled the name and found what I thought to be the owner. It turned out to be a professional dive boat well the owners couldn't of been more appreciative and left me with a bottle of wine and a thank you letter.

Now that cost them the sum total of very little but left me with a great warm glow inside and no it wasn't the wine :) it was the words that did it but the wine obviously helped. That's what you should have if you put yourself out to help others the knowledge that your efforts are appreciated. Mind you I have also had the other treatment and that isn't pleasant.

Don't give up on the human race as there are some quality people out there you just have to look a little harder than you might have done a few years ago

Maybe this will make you feel a little better. I found it inside one of my teak boards.
:) It will be in the box with the GPS that will be headed you way soon. I'm sure you can find just the spot for it on Littleship

Bernie

Everybody should have one of those......... just erm what is it, and dont say a piece of wood :p

I think I have worked out what it is, it's a wood antenna for a wooden boat..... neat ?

Tom

Towed an old guy in an old fishing boat with grankids on board 2 miles back to Pwllheli harbour with my 26foot power boat couple of years ago. It was getting up a bit , his engine had conked out and he was panicking trying to row back. He accepted our offer of help.
Had to go very slowly but got them back to the slip safe and dry. Just got off the boat and walked away , no thanks or offer of pint. Didnt do it for reward but would have been a lot more graetful in his shoes.

Some people are just takers.

That's very sad LittleShip.

I have to say that I found some 'Forumites' that I have met here the most generous and helpful that I have come across in any walk of life without exception. It's clear to me that I can never begin to 'repay' some of that generosity and I, and my family, 'owe' a lot to some folks here. So all the more surprising that a 'Thank You' has not been given (I hope I've not been guilty of that).

I dont want to appear sychophantic, just pointing out there are some amazingly generous folks here who know who they are I'm sure.

Some years ago we published in PDF format engine manual for the Perkins 4107/8, which we published on an obscure website address to get it. Once done it did not involve any work or cost on our part, and I think is the way forward

Thanks????????????

What gets up my nose the most is the divot who asks for advice, on a particular subject, and it is given freely, (mostly discovered through your own experiences) and finding the best/easiest way to surmount the problem, which will then be backed almost to the letter by a fellow forumite giving the same advice. The recipient then disappears from the radar, only to reappear on another forum asking the self same question, and when a flippant reply is sent they get the hump. So I do not bother now, SORT YOUR OWN PROBS OUT!!

I've replied to him, several times John lol

Oh, you are a smart one, a wooden gps antenna! If that doesn't work for you, cut the little round part off the top of your jackstaff and put this on it ins place. Then you will have an official Grand Banks jackstaff. I made one for a friend in our club and figured LS needed to look official also, so I made two.

Ok I'll do the flagstaff............. still think wood antenna sounded better :)

Anyway, I'll have you know that the "Jackstaff" on Little Ship was made from the best broom handle I could find :) the top piece was from an old piece of wood left laying around stained andvarnished to look the part :P
