Do forums or don't do forums.

any number of providers will host a site for you for the price mentioned, any number of developers provide free software to do forums,

[/ QUOTE ] You are quite wrong Stu, as well as being unnecessarily rude to poor old long-suffering Brendan.

My own forum has maybe a tenth of the traffic of this, maybe a twentieth . . . it is currently using 1.5GB of storage and 2GB a month bandwidth. Multiply that by ten or twenty and tell me who will host this forum for £25 a year? In the very unlikely event that there was such a hosting package performance would be glacial for sure, even by current Friday afternoon standards.

I see the beneteau owners forum domain in your sig (for example) is registered with Fasthosts, one of the cheaper reliable UK hosting companies, so I am guessing it is also hosted with them. Their cheapest package is £46 + VAT per annum, while 5GB storage and 'unlimited' bandwidth is £85 per annum, and if you need over 5GB storage it will set you back around £160 per annum - so where exactly do you get your £25 figure from?

I've told you a million times, Stu, don't exaggerate . . .

Oh, I see you're talking to me! Between all the Brendan bashing and thread drift I lost the plot.
My problem is the forums are unreliable and this causes irritation as you can see by the fact that each forum has, each Friday and at random intervals in between, a thread complaining about this fact.
How long would people continue reading a magazine in which the text was obliterated every seventh page?
Just because something is perceived as being free doesn't mean it has to be bad. If no-one complains it will never get fixed.
