If any of you are thinking of a drone for your boating. I have now had my DJI Mini 3 Pro and it is a lovely machine. Here is an example of some close in work that you can easily do. It has front, Rear and Bottom sensors and is under 250g in weight and handles the wind incredibly well so ideal for boatinf

 
What phone are you using to fly it?

I was very impressed with the DJI drones - until they abandoned support for Android phones and withdrew the DJI Fly app, essential for use, from the Google Playstore. Though registered with DJI, they didn’t bother even to inform about this. Just found the drone unusable when tried to fly. Nil points for customer service and support.

What..... I can assure you DJI still support Android and have for years. Thousands of people fly the most up to date DJI drones using Android devices and the DJI fly app is fully supported. You just need to download it from the DJI store.... In fact the Mini 3 I bought (3 Options) has the dedicated DJI RC which is android.

On all my other DJI Drones I use Iphones or Ipad Mini. I tend to buy Iphone 6s Plus or 8 Plus from ebay and use them as a dedicated screens.

The existing Android versions of DJI Fly stopped working, and had to be removed from phone. As I said, then discovered DJI had removed DJI Fly from the official Android App Store - reputedly because it doesn’t comply with latest Android app standards.
Yes it is possible to download directly if your phone allows App downloads from other sources - but name another credible major organisation that has Android apps that cannot be installed from the official Android playstore (this is generally conspidered to be bad practice as security risk, and would nto even be permitted on Apple devices for example).

Sounds like you would rather have the hump about this than sort it out which is very easy and literally 100s or thousands of people do it with no issues. Never mind I tried to help

No, just warning others. I tend to use the drone in remote places (that make Loch Lomond seem the sub-urban playground it often is) - hence I was not able to download new apps at the time and was unable to fly the drone. Fortunately I had an iPad on board so went back to use that.

But if you look on the internet there are thousands of disgruntled customers who suddenly discovered that DJI had abandoned availability of DJI Fly for Android devices - and without the courtesy of any advice from DJI to their registered customers.

Yes if you have a good Internet signal, a degree of Android expertise - and a flexible attitude to device security - it is possible to reinstall a version of DJI Fly not using the official Android App Store (which I have subsequently done, with reluctance). But this leaves the question of why the DJI Fly app Is no longer permitted on the official Playstore - as it apparently doesn’t meet the approved software standards. What are the software’s divergent features, and what risks do these entail to the device security?

As I said at the outset, the DJI Mini’s are great devices. But DJI‘s support for Android devices (by far the biggest share of mobile phones) has a history of being somewhat ad-hoc in the past. And this loss of availability from the official App Store is almost unprecedented for a reputable supplier. And the lack of customer communication lamentable.
They seem to be more stable on Apple (perhaps because Apple don’t allow them the option of bypassing the Apple App Store).
 
I also fly a DJI Mini using a Samsung phone, I while back, the app stopped working, I just needed to re-download the FLY app from the DJI site and all worked fine again. Great little machines with excellent camera's for the size, I also use a DJI pocket (same gimbal based hand held camera)

Been playing a little more with the DJI Mini 3 Pro. This is the firs time I have used the master shot function. Would look very good with your boat as the subject although several of mine are in this very short video

 
Worth nothing that the app is not compatible with every phone, android or otherwise. My wife bought me one for my bday and the most recent version of the app is not compatible with my model phone. Check the list before you buy!

you must have a very old phone as I use most of my drones with a second hand IPhone 6s and 6s plus and it works fine. Best bet is to have a bespoke phone for drone use. I bought second hand from eBay

what phone are you using
 
The DJI Mini 3 pro has at its top package a bespoke controller with inbuilt screen this is the one I used here

As noted previously, DJI seems to have much better support for Apple than for Android phones.
I had to replace my Samsung phone when I got the drone (which costs more than the second hand drone) - and even then they dropped official support for the Android App Store on any phone.

Yep, I've had problems too - I had to install an older version of the Android app on my Galaxy S22 for it to work. Very poor support from DJI. Yes, I'm technical and can work around it, but it's very shoddy. I don't think I'd buy a DJI product again.

Galaxy A21. Nothing fancy. I borrowed the wife's iPhone for a test flight yesterday. Have to say the drone is as close to idiot proof as possible so very happy with that. I could install an older version of the app on the A21 but that version wouldn't allow connection to the drone as it is a newer model, nor an update to the newest version. Drone itself is definitely cool!

I keep an old Galaxy S8 to use with my drones.
At the moment, I have an old DJI Mini 1 and a Mavic Air 2.
The S8 works with both - the app is the same for each of my drones
I use the DJI Fly App which is much simpler than the DJI Go 4 that we used to use on the Mavic Pro and some of the Phantoms.
I cant seem to find the DJI Fly App in the Google Play Store

My old Mini 1 isn't as good as the Mini 2 or the new Mini 3 but it does pack down into a very small case (complete with my spare S8 phone).
This means I can chuck it into my "carry on" bag when I fly anywhere.
And they always say that the best camera is the one that you actually have with you at the time you want it.
My Mavic Air 2 (not the Air 2S) is a significantly better drone to the Mini - more robust and better in strong winds etc.
Both my drones are outdated but still produce really good results.

I like the idea of the integrated display in the new Mini 3.
I imagine that there is less "faffing" around if you want to launch it quickly.
But, for me, that would come with the disadvantage that it would be stored in a bigger case thus taking up more space in my "carry on" flight bag.
When/if my Mini 1 fails, I would buy a new Mini 3 though - it looks a great little drone.
