DIY Transit log in Bodrum.

Sybaris I paid 60 euros to the girl in the Chamber of shipping office who provided me with the document and put the info onto the computer system. My boat is 10.5 m .We did not need visas as ours were still in date.
Squeaky...interesting about the possibility of us obtaining the TL online...

Little bit of thread drift ...

Apologies for the slight thread drift but I understand that Turkey requires an inventory but I dont know how thorough it needs to be ?

Do I need to note the Number of knives and forks in the cutlery drawer or just "dinghy, outboard, case of beer"

I seem to remember Croatia or Montenegro requiring one but I was never asked for it.

Yup

Been 8 months+ & away from boat, YES but mostly big stuff, if my memory is correct, i.e.; Engine, VHF, Radar, Outboard, etc. It's part of the Transit Log form submission process
small stuff = no

To follow on from Chuteman's post. I have the document in front of me. It takes the form of a Customs Declaration and asks for name and serial nos of
Main engine, outboard, generator,(assuming you have one) VHF,Dinghy,GPS(by which I assume they include chartplotter).

Presumably the idea is that if you renew any of these items, and have brought them from abroad ,in theory you should have paid Turkish import duty .This will of course only come to light if the customs men choose to inspect your boat.
When I renewed my dinghy last year I changed the name and serial no and was asked for proof of purchase. As I had bought it in Turkey, there was no problem, however if I had brought it from the UK,they might have been inclined to charge me duty.

All in theory .It is not a big deal.

Good afternoon:

I have just received a message from a Turkish government department in response to a series of messages concerning allowing individual yachtsmen to obtain a transit log on line paying with a credit card without involving a local agent. The gist of the message is to the effect that the infrastructure has been established and a web site prepared which will permit this and that they are only awaiting the approval of another government department before going on line. I think the approving department is the Department of Finance but am not sure but the details are not important.

I have asked several people to keep their eyes open for this site and to let me know as soon as they have any further details.

Unfortunately I will not be able to avail myself to this until next spring however it will be a welcome change as I am tired of paying and supporting the local agents and paying for something I can easily do myself.

Cheers

Thanks for the info Sqeaky - Thats good news. We are there in 3 weeks so I dont suppose the "government department" will have given its approval by then.

Thanks for that Squeaky!

Sounds like progress! However I presume that we will still have to buy the actual paper document and print it ourselves,,or will it all be done on line with no documentation.? Await with interest.

Where will you be planning to check in? If Bodrum, follow my instructions and you will only have to pay for the Document about 60 euros and will save agent's fees.

I understand that when taking the boat out of Turkey (even if returning again shortly) the Transit Log must be surrendered and a new one purchased on return.
What happens to a Residence Permit (say 2 or 3 years) which has been obtained on production of the TL - does that remain valid for its duration even if the TL has been surrendered (as would a Visitors Visa) or does the whole process have to be repeated on returning.

The Transit log is basically the authority to have a foreign yacht in Turkey without payment of custom charges etc - sort of a temporary importation while the Residence Permit (Ikamet) authorizes the holder to live in Turkey for the period for which it was issued.

The transit log has to be surrendered when you leave Turkish (actually before leaving) as it will have fulfilled its purpose but the Residence Permit allows the holder to enter and leave Turkey as many times as he wishes for what ever period he chooses.

The transit log was recently accepted as proof of accommodation etc but the two are not otherwise connected.

I personally believe that we will eventually be able to apply and pay for the transit log on line and be able to print off the various pages on our own printer however this might be a bit of wishful thinking or pie in the sky but I remain optimistic.
