A friend is about to make an offer on a nice Moody 31, but the standing rigging is over 15 years old.

I’m happy to help him lower/raise his mast (with the help of a local crane company, of course) but does anyone have a rough idea of how much a complete set of standing rigging will cost? Are we looking at circa £1500?

He’s Portsmouth based so if there are any local companies that can supply the rigging I’d be interested in your recommendation. (But not Rigit)

Hi I had mine done by the riggers in Gosport in 2020 when I was berthed there. 31’ boat, single spreaders, for £2200 plus mast removal/ replacement.
Good luck.

Why not have a look at the Jimmy Green website. You can get a price for custom rigging, choose the ends, choose the length etc. and you get a price for the individual parts.
I did that in 2018 and then got a quote from a rigging company. Went with the rigging company. It cost a bit more but they sorted out the furlex and I learnt a lot from watching and even helping them so worth the extra bit of £.

My 31ft boat, double spreader fractional rig. Just shy of £800 for everything but the backstay and bottle-screws (which I re-used). As ever, a large proportion of boat work estimates is the labour cost. Take that away, things get A LOT cheaper.

If there’s a Z Spars outfit near you get a quote from them. Their customer service was second to none and they were cheaper than Jimmy Green for me.

Jimmy Green are not cheap for rigging. Their website is user friendly but you pay more than alternative suppliers in my experience.
If crane costs are high, you can consider taking the wires off one at a time with the mast up. We did this on our 17.8m mast as the cost of a crane was very high. We made our own wires up with stalok fittings

We had the same rigging replaced on our 32’ Beneteau for £1500 two years ago by Mylor Rigging. This didn’t include new turnbuckles as I already had them. I was going to diy it but there was little difference in the price it wasn’t worth it.

We paid £1400 in 2021 for new rigging for a 39ft Moody. That was through Z Spars, and did not include bottlescrews, but did include a Sta Lok at one end of each stay, with the lengths supplied slightly long ago that I could trim them and fit the terminals myself. Like Geen I did it one stay at a time to save on crane costs.

Had my 28 footer done by local riggers 2 years ago (or was it 3?) when the mast was already down for something else. £1200 plus £80 to set it up once back in the water. All new fittings too.

80's 33 foot, single spreader boat from the same yard as the Moody you are looking at, parts only standing rigging was ~£1500 from Alba sailing in Dunstaffnage.

(1x19 7mm shrouds and forestay (Stay-lok fitting - its a furler) , 1x19 5mm backstay, 12 x swaged fittings etc)

Old rigging dropped off, new collected 2 weeks later. I'm sure they could ship it.

Jimmy green was a decent amount more!
