I dived last night to check my boat for damage after a collision with a log during the trip back from Bangor a few weeks ago. No damage, other than some scuffed antifoul.

I guess you mean a duplicate second stage? I learned to dive without one (We used to do buddy breathing). Weight is always a problem with diving gear when flying, so I strip my gear. If I'm diving with Louise, I'll be fine anyway.
In this country I often dive solo, so I use twin tanks and complete twin regs. I've recently put together a second set of gear for the yacht, my main gear is with the RIB.

Just remembered the worst diving incident I was involved in.
In Martin's haven, on the west side of the bay, I had a pair of novices doing a buddy breathing exercise, another experienced diver watching and holding the SMB.
The exercise was proceeding nicely and they had exchanged the regulator half a dozen times, when the guy takes the regulator from his mouth, with his teeth still attached to it.
I now had 4 divers convulsed with laughter, but two of them had no air supply! Soon got everything sorted out, and the free diving teeth into his BCD pocket.
Probably a good thing that they don't teach it any more!

BSAC stopped using buddy breathing in the 90s I think. I know it changed to AAS (Alternative Air Source) about the time I was doing my instructer exams, maybe 1995?

That's right. I think the trips weren't running for some reason - possibly too early in the season.
I did my instructor exam around the same time and buddy breathing was still being taught in addition to AAS. The move to AAS only happened after I stopped diving regularly in 1999. At least on the East side of the Severn
