Diving holiday near Oban Schotland

Wow, some very nice stuff indeed!
The green water gives a surrealistic touch to the environment...
...not to mention the temperature: I'm almost feeling cold just looking at the pics! :)
How many degrees did you have underwater?

its a worldwide rule for sports divers that they can't take anything from the sea while diving. I was pleasantly surprised while talking with a local dive club, he advised us how and where to catch fish.

don't worry, we had 6 evenings to taste all flavours of local whiskey.
On the bad weather day we visited the Oban distillery, including tasting...
One mate bought no less then 50 bottles of a very special limited edition Oban single malt (only 1000 bottles produced)

we also bought a few bottles Oban, taste is close to our favourite single malt: Dalwhinnie.

Oban is one of my very favorite singles. Ummmm, can small the peaty nose now!

Doune castle is a bit from the sea, did you travel as well?

we did some side seeing on our way back from Oban to Newcastle (the last picture with a castle)

But the castle in Doune, aswell as the following 3 pics,
some of our group did a one day side seeing tour with the car, I have to admid that I was not with them.
I preferred to do things on or with the boat :)

Hope my unwitting comments were not offensive!

not at all BG
you don't want to know the comments we give him about his leg :)

joking aside,
indeed he needs respect,
when speaking privately with Jurgen, you can feel the emotional pain he still has,
but I admire his ability to look at the bright side of things, and enjoy live, just like we do.

the green water is typical for "our" waters (plankton)
northsea and atlantic.
underwater its either green or deeper its black (no light)

watertemp was approx 14°C. All of us had dry dive suits.
Cold is mostly an issue "after" the dive, not during the dive,
but with the canopy, and some bottles of fine single malts after the second dive, we got it warm enough :)

Brilliant account of your adventures and fantastic photos. I love these type of threads.

Re comments on the whiskey, Bart could probably buy cheaper in Belgium, I remember buying some in France to bring home years ago, the locals found this hilarious that it was cheaper there (I don't think that is funny!)

This has been the case for many years Bo, back in the 1970's I could buy Dewars, Bells and Grouse for less money here at home than in the city of Perth (Scotland) where it is made.

Bart...thanks for the report mate, very nice indeed! I do love the pics of the feasting :) you blokes certainly know how to look after yourselves :D

not the greatest viz I see ... winter is much better !!

Visability was not too bad Alf, at least compared to what we are used to here locally in Northsea or Oosterschelde.
Here it is completely dark from -15m

in Oban we could move around a wreck at -25m without uwlight,
Some spots around coll, white pebble bottom, absolutely clear water, and perfectly clear vis. (unfort no pics)
Depending the tide, som spots had more "dust"

Now i remember again, that guyded tour in the Oban destilliry, by a local young girl, dressed a little old fashion, or is it local Tradition :o
but her accent, absolutely fabulous, and sooooooo lovely.
Or should i say so scottisch :)

That looks like a great trip Bart. It's on my list to go there.

You should post that trip report on here:

Biggest diving forum in the UK, they'll love it.

Patrick

I didnt know this forum Patrick, looks a lot more interesting then the Bsac forum that i visit occasionally ?
Will copy paste this report over there, but first have to make an account when i am on another Pc, hate Ipad for that

Yes this trip is really worth doing, different but as interesting as a similar trip we did last year to falmouth and scillies.
