PortHamble to Torquay by Sea... about 100 Sea Miles??... am I about right or OTT?

Yup, about that. Bit less if you go close around Portland Bill and St Albans head, but its only a few miles difference...

yep, thats about right 100miles and around 4hours cruising and around lyme bay

This ruler for Google maps is a really easy way to work out simple distances if you've got an idea of the route you want to take:

... and as Rick suggested, if you take the inshore tracks where appropriate, the Google ruler makes it 94nm.

I've just run it through my Memory Map with proper charts and surprisingly it is 95 miles if you keep very close in at Portland and only a couple of miles longer (97 miles) if you keep 7 miles south of the "Old Bill".
Not taking tides into consideration of course.

So it does. It's a bit well-hidden though, isn't it? Still, in fairness, it's probably easier to use than the daftlogic one I've been using until now...
