Hi have a galleon of this fuel over from last season 50-1 mixture, would this be safe to put in a car that has over half a tank of fuel already in it?

Don't assume that two stroke fuel can't be used after a year I've used it in a chainsaw with no problems. If you do want to put it in a car tank what I would do is take the fuel container to a garage put the two stroke in and then fill the tank.

if the 2str can has been securely closed, the contents will not come to much harm and can be used for their intended purpose.

I use Briggs and Stratton petrol additive to overcome the effect of bio-ethanol in fuel. It works on the chainsaws even in cold winters.

(I think Hlafords have it, plus other additive products.)

If you want to start the season with fresh 2str, you can add the fuel to a car tank, and fill the tank full as has been suggested.

If you are worried about using it in the car put in a litre of 50-1 mix every time you fill up. approx. 50 litres with 50-1 mix would give 2500-1 mix, your car won't notice that.

The galleon was half and half, left over from my four stroke engines and two stroke engines, I have nothing to use it in,other than my brothers newish skoda.my car being diesel. He never runs on less than half a tank of petrol so will be pretty weak. He found out about the additive you mentioned, as he has just taken his petrol mower in for service,it was suggested to him to add this additive.

I change the 2 stroke for my tender every year. Just put the old stuff iin SWMBOs Ka No problem and greener than ditching it

My 4 stroke generator just ran out of petrol and all I had was what was in my 2 stroke outboard can so I pored it in and it ran just nicely. A bit of smoke but OK.

Don't forget some people used to put red X in our cars a long time which is just like 2 stroke oil.

I would dispose of the fuel

The question is, how to dispose of it?

I used to put it in my old Polo, but now I have a diesel Freelander so that's not an option.

Small amounts drained out of carbs and pumps etc when working on outboards, I've just chucked on the gravel behind my shed. But it doesn't feel very clever to do the same with a 5-litre can. I haven't needed to dispose of such quantities since changing cars, but I don't really know what I'd do if I needed to.

+1, If a car hasn't been run in well, some of the modern engines that require full synth, the will burn quite a lot... Wife's 207 gets through a litre or so between changes once a year on about 8000 miles

Last years 50:1 can be filtered, mixed with an equal quantity of fresh and used as normal ........... Provided it has been stored in a full, tightly capped, metal can in a cool place.

If not it can go in my car as that does not have a "cat" to worry about.

.. a gallon...just over 4 litres, call it a fiver, and you're thinking of putting it in your car where it might do untold horrible things to the sensitive little lump of metal under the bonnet.....? Take it to the tip... :encouragement:
