Disgrace in Mercury today

Witnessed a blue hulled yacht trying to moor downstream on the ebb today into C36, he got it all wrong and got pinned on the corner, that is not a criticism we have all cocked up at some point including me, however the marina manager spotted from 300 yards away what was going on and runs to the scene to assist , the yacht skipper then swears for a full ten minutes at the Marina manger and blames him!!!, I thought blows would be thrown and a couple of us moved towards the Marina manger to provide back up, only been boating 5 years, worst behaviour I have ever seen, as I type this the dick head is still on the berth

Did the marina manager allocate him that berth as a visitor?

I once came up with an idea for a comedy sketch like that. Obvious newbie radios up. Marina staff allocate him berth A0 with glee and troop out to watch. One of then sticks his head in the bar and shouts "A dazed kipper is going to try to get into A0". Old timer says "No one's managed that since Lucky Jimmy in 1994". Drinkers join the crowd...
 
Probably frustration getting the better of him but...if you cock it up, as we all do, best to just put your hands up, accept your judgment was all wrong, gratefully take any help on offer, try and learn from it and move on or you're just gonna look a prize prat.

Agree 100percent with Lisa, this guy was just sooooooo angry he had his face in the others face and was going mental, I think he was super angry and the poor guy that ran to help was then to blame, I could hear the skippers wife shouting " help us, do you know how much this boat is worth , just stuck up scum bags"

The Marina manager can clearly look after himself and did well not to throw a left hook, smashing bloke just felt for him
 
I watched a yacht( pro skipper training) hit two boats in Port Solent last week while working on a boat same pontoon, nothing was said and skipper didn't even go and look at the boats he hit, when I asked him was he going to report his action he replied saying " no harm done" I just shook my head. This goes on all the time, I'm glad I'm no longer in a marina that takes visitors anymore, I've seen too much of this over the years and been a victim of other visitors in my time at Swanwick not reporting damage they cause. It's time the marina operators paid for damage to boats in there marinas, how they can accept no liability is beyond me considering the amount they charge. Parking your car in a public car park has to be accepted you could get your car damaged. Paying best part of 10k a year isn't.
 
I understand the staff at Mercury are under close scrutiny presently and recently some heads have rolled due to poor customer service. A call or email to MDL in this chap's favour may go down very well.

It would be nice to think they would support their Manager and politely advise the yacht owners concerned to make berth arrangements elsewhere.

The guys at Mercury are one of if not he nicest people I deal with as an outside contractor, absolutely no aggro whatsoever, always pleasant when signing in and handing over keys.
 
What was the outcome Paul? Did he calm down eventually and accept his own misjudgement or was he still maintaining it wasn't his fault?

No he was still going crazy, the Manager asked if he was in neutral as it looked like he may be stuck in gear, this just seemed to make him even more angry , it's a shame he did not self combust and scatter himself over a very wide area, a horrid man

Some people, just "lose it" sometimes. More usually on the roads, less often seen on the water. If I had been the marina manager, I would have disengaged after 60 seconds and left him to it, then added the boat to the "We are full" blacklist for next time.
 
While I am sure it is not unique to sailing, a pastime that tends to attract more than its share of driven egoists who are in essence just showing off, combined with an almost infinite capacity to embarrass them, does shine something of a light on the unpleasantness that lies shallow beneath the thin veneer of civilisation in many men.

Just out of curiosity, what was "dick head" actually ranting about, was the water, the wrong sort, wrong size ripples, incorrect timber used on the pontoons, cleats made of the wrong metal, or the offensive trousers worn by Colin the manager ?? we do NEED TO KNOW these matters to judge on the validity of the rant !!!...... must confess to having "blow a gasket" when mooring with "incorrect" size rain drops on windscreen !!!!
 
I saw Scott sprinting down the pontoon and looked across and saw the boat sticking out at a rather odd angle and went back to getting my windscreen seal in place, wish I had paid more attention. It would have been a pleasure to back up Scott up and tell the dick head what I am sure Scott wanted to... But couldn't.

Btw, the show was obviously just put on to entertain new residents of mercury, nothing that interesting ever normally happens... Nice to meet you yesterday paul.
