Disaster!

Its important in life not to laugh at others misfortune.....
Not sure if you're referring to the "LOL" in my post #6, but just in case, I hope it's clear that I was strictly referring to the weird situation with Jez on the phone, which in fact also petem defined the "funniest thing".
Laughing at his misfortune wasn't my intention by any stretch of imagination...

Very sorry to hear about your situation. Generally it seems a very strange system to disable engines if it goes off. I would call Southampton (seafire) and see if they can advise on what to do to restart the boat then buy a good local extinguisher to have on hand so that you can continue your holiday. Not sure I would contact your insurance at this stage.

I also feel the service agent must step up to the mark here and pull out all the stops to get you going

Just my 2p worth but above all try not to let it spoil your Holiday if at all possible

Dennis

I sailed around the Med for 5 years with the safety pin in mine until a mate who I engaged to help service the engines noticed .We were changing an elbow near it ( back of ER ) so wanted to make safe only to find it was !
However .
Realise the insurance implications with a syndicate and PeteM s responsibility to the other members .

One would have thought the “ Co “ would jury rig a temp replacement of some sort to get PeteM going ? -while the correct part (s) arrive. Have a few spare on hand .

Hope they turn up today with a temp solution.

+ 1 on that

The engines must shut down or the fire suppressing gas will be evacuated via the running engine ( dragged into the air filters )

What seems to have happened is the fitters have not just removed the bottle but played with the wiring so the helm over ride which allows the engine to run once the system has fired no longer works.

The insurance usually requires an automatic engine bay extinguisher so if there are plans for a Manual alternative calling the insurers is a good idea to see if they will grant a waiver of some sort. Co owners may also have a view.

Of course Pete has to get it going first. !

Yes they will you can override it , if that won’t work just disconnect the purple wire to the stop solenoid on each pump or disconnect the stop relay in the black box .
There was another post on here same engines same non start problem turned out to be faulty sea fire system .
Personally I think it’s a crap system in that you can be stranded after it’s gone off . I’ve been to a few boats that won’t start because of the design

Paul, when I turn the keys the alarm sounds and the blowers are off. The discharged light is lit. When I switch to 'override' the alarm goes off and the blowers go and starter motors are activated. Engines turn but don't start. Do you think the non firing of the engines is unrelated?

THE fire system is giving a permanent stop signal to the stop relay , until the fire system is reset it will continue.
Read my post again and you can get it to run .

I'm sure that the fire extinguisher end of the Seafire system is just a simple switch so it can be over ridden.

I have a test procedure that I run regularly - with engines running, I disconnect the inline plastic junction and the engines stop.

Who did the checking, Pete?
Tim has a fire extinguished man in SC that he thought was good.
Maybe get the name from him - or I can contact Tim for you.

Mike, do you think I can simply run a wire between the two terminals? I assume that if I check the terminals there will be 12v across them?

I don't know if this is any help, Pete, but I have got some old Seafire controllers (the ones with the toggle switch) in my shed in Spain (Paniola).
I kept them after upgrading to the solid state ones.
You probably don't need them but I thought I'd say that they are there if you do.

Thanks Mike, ironically I have a new one purchased from eBay ready to be fitted.
