Don't see how you can say that with only one launch and one recovery under your belt. I don't get covered in crap, get wet or damage the car or trailer when I launch. OK I don a pair of waders whan I recover (sometimes) buit thats because water is quiet cold in the winter! Sometimes I don't even get wet when I recover.

Look at your first launch. Wrong state of the tide, wrong launching vehicle for the conditions, crap slip and inexperience. INEXPERIENCE is the key word here. A bit of homework and preperation and PRACTICE and it'll all become clear! Your missing out on loads of good cruising grounds by leaving it soley on the Medway which is a bit of a craphole anyway (I've already donned my flame proof suit).

If you were to drive an articulated lorry you'd go and get a bit of training and advise before you munched yer Yorkies and went truckin' up and down the road system. Why should it be different with ther trailer, you got training on the boat before you went out in it, or even bought it! Why any different with the trailer.

I'm gonna ignore that last post and see if you change your mind after you've been else where and see and do it properly.

I suppose that you know of course that when you antifaoul the boat once you need to keep repeating the job once every year at least.
Also that when you take the boat out of the water for a long period of time you need to antifoul it again before you put it in.
I cannot see why trailing a boat is such a big hussle. I did a run last year with a 7 mtr RIB (as you know) from the UK all the way to Greece no probs (if you exclude the attitude of the French drivers).
I did the same thing with a smaller boat 5 mtr 4 years ago. Again no probs. I also trail boats in the UK without probs.
I don't think that is you but I still think that is the boat. GET RID OF IT !!

I am NOT in the slightest interested in becoming a trailer sailor, I want as little experience of that nonsense as possible. I appreciate everyones help, especially Derek today giving up some of his Saturday. I will use the trailer on the very odd occassion I need to get somewhere, but this WILL be the odd occassion.

I think that dry stacking system has something going for it, unfortunately none near me though.

<font color=blue>Thank you for the explanation as to what anti-foul paint does. You still haven't answered my question.... "WHY IS YOUR BOAT ANTI-FOULED?" as I understand it you trail your boat, trailed boats don't need anti-fouling, only boats that are being left in the water need it. Even if you left your boat in the water for 2/3 weeks in the growing season a swift run over with a hose would wash everything off.

I think you will find that this guy is pulling your chains, he is what the Americans would call a "post whore". He is on a number of forums as either Flanker or Happy1, and I find it incredible that anybody could have so much to say when they have clearly so little experience.

I'm all for helping someone, but this guy just seems to crave attention.

Hi Piston, please publicly name the name number of forums, I would be very interested to know where I am. It will also show that you have just made up a load of nonsense and misled people on here /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I left ribnet and recently in the last week or so was invited to boatmadforum.co.uk to explain about my launch day, but since then I have only posted a handful of posts, I am not a member of any other forums. It is very unhelpful to put such untruthful information on a forum like this! If you DON'T name them then we know YOU are a forum troublemaker and gossiper /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I'm waiting !! It would also help if you could put the URL link in as well /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Byron, I am sorry but I thought everybody knew my boat was permanently moored at Chatham, it is only out for the trip to Poole to meet Barry for the Easter weekend. It was fully anti-fouled by the dealer, but I was going to do the leg as Derek (Canboria) kindly told me about the clear anti-foul, it seems a great idea as I can keep the leg looking like new.

As for asking so many questions, there is so much to know and I don't think you can ever ask too many questions. I am getting my `experience now which leads to more questions and discussions, I did think that was what a forum was for, to share information.

Re:antifouling the leg

I take it that you have now done this?

If you don't do it from new you will have torouble gettign teh leg 'clean enough' for a good bond in the difficult to access places..........

I'm very sorry to hear about all your trouble, i only hope that my new American boat goes okay.

Get your money back and go and buy yourself a Rinker, The end product and the dealer really have been fantastic. (so far touch wood).

A flaw in the mould.

Re: Dented hull or just ????

After what some people have said I think that could well be the case. What amazes me is that no bu..er saw it, even though it was meant to have been PDI'd and polished. Still I have learnt some great lessons about this baoting industry, they are a load of low down useless scheming thieves IMHO of course. The only decent guys are the members of this forum, so kind and helpful, less of course the odd pratt here and there /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Do be gentle with it - 3000 RPM is far above what would normally be reccomended speed for orbital polishers. 1750RPM is normall the maximum that should be aimed for, otherwise you are prone to getting heat build up, which decreases the effectiveness of the polish, and can will damage paint, and to lesser extent gel coat.

I'm puzzled you need to polish quite so soon - I normally get by with one machine polish per season, even with a boat boat that was 22 years old (admitedly she was Awlgripped, but that was 5 years old too).

Current boat's paint is 5 years old, and that only gets one polish a season. Mind you it takes days to do, and costs a small fortune, so perhaps it's just me being a cheapskate. Usually involves a lift out too, as it is tricky to do from a dinghy.

I Have seen a number of these boats delivered on a trailer alledly set up for the boat. It looks like they just plonk the boat on the trailer when it arrives from the manufacturer. It is not difficult to set up and should only take about 1/2 hour if you know what your doing, obviously they don't! As for the dent it sounds like a mould mark but get them to check it out any way, we had one that had two 'dents' in the bottom which turned out to be where it had been strapped down to the shipping cradle to tight.

More importantly why is it taking until the end of April for the Volvo agent to attend to the alarm. Our local Volvo agent was round the same day when we had an issue with a new boat and it was sorted in about 10 minutes. i would get on the phone and have a paddy at them

as far as your boating exploits go it sounds as if you are reading far to many books and not getting out there and doing it!! i would get an instructor to spend a day with you and get the trailering thing sorted once and for all rather than mucking about on your own.

best of luck
