Hi folks, and merry Christmas to you and yours.
I have a strange problem in that I think I may have the wrong dipsticks in both engines. The dipsticks do not sit very well in the tube, with at least an inch of dipstick above the tube when fully inserted, but the end sounds like it hits the base of the sump. My reasoning is, that I had pumped all the oil out with one of those electric suction thingies, and as I thought, completely emptying the sump so that the dipstick is totally dry. I screwed on a new oil filter, so there was definitely no oil left.... The high mark on the dipstick was covered after 5 litres of oil went in. The book says these things hold a fair bit more than that - 10.5 to 11.5 litres, or 11 to 12 quarts depending on inclination. I wondered, could I impose on anyone's kind nature with these engines, and measure the length of their dip-stick (ooh err) and tell me how far along the low and high marks are, please? Don't go straight away... please open your presents and finish up your dinner first!
Many thanks in anticipation.
