I have a Balmar alternator, model 912-100.
The alternator failed at the beginning of the season and as we were cruising in the Greek isles I replaced it with the original VP alternator.
Now I am back in Malta I have opened up the Balmar alternator and find that 1 of the 6 diodes is shorted and the braid wire connection between it and another diode has melted.
It looks repairable, 6 new diodes plus replacing all the braid wire connections. I think the original cause was the crimp terminal on the post of the failed diode coming loose and going high resistance, causing a serious overheat/diode failure/wire melt.
The diodes are standard 1/2 inch press-fit diodes, 3 +, 3 -. But they are unmarked. So I have no part numbers, spec etc.
My problem is sourcing the diodes. I have scoured the net for suppliers in the UK with no success. Any help with suppliers would be appreciated.
