Anyone suggest a good place to pick up a second hand dinghy. Looking for an inflatable (2-3 man) to row out to swinging mooring.

I'm also looking for some oilies - but overwhelmed with the choice and some of the price differences. E.g professional range from Compass and Mustos.

Thanks,

Jono

If you are in the Solent area try Aladdins cave, they have second hand dinghies. The dinghy centre is at the Burseldon branch just by the bridge outside Moody's yard. Other wise look in the classified ads in the PBO and similar and on the board of the local yacht clubs.

Foul weather gear is a matter of choice and the sailing you are doing and whether or not you are a sweaty person. If you are long distance sailing then you need the best, if you are pottering round your local area, never more than a couple of hours from your base or a marina then a coastal system will do. The under layers are also important. If you are out for some time then I recommend a base layer of skiing thermals, followed by a mid range of Henri Lloyf, musto or whatever, then a coastal or off shore top. If you are a sweaty person, like me, breatable are a good idea. if not then standard kit is fine.

Good sailing

I should have added re oilies, if you want unbiased practical advice, have an RNLI Sea Check. The Sea Safety adviser will include advice on the best type of clothing, for the type of sailing you are doing, not as regards brands but with respect to the type of sailing you intend to do. Contact the RNLI HQ at Poole and ask for the Water Safety office. If you cannot get through by that means email me and I will get hold of them for you. If you are around Cowes, email me and I will do it for you.
