Hi - Its Nick, MD of Digital Yacht. I'm sorry our main website is down but it's an ISP issue. Digital Yacht is all fine. Please email if you have a query - it will be working again as soon as we're back at work tomorrow or visit our blog

Had a similar problem the other week, & Nick heys said the servers needed rebooting after the weekend, so probably the same again.

they were up on the 24th as I downloaded the updates from the site for my ais b unit along with the relevant tech notes.

Two companies with very similar names trading fron the same address-I would not touch them with a bargepole. Even if nothing irregular has occured it certainly prepares the ground very nicely!

On the 27th January I ordered a DIGITAL YACHT SC500 GPS CHART PLOTTER WITH BUILT IN AIS and C-MAP MEGA WIDE PROMO UK CHART from Marine Electronic Services. The order was confirmed and the confirmation was from Cactus 020 LTD Bristol Head Office.
Nothing received so far but I did have a call on the 28th Jan to say they were out of stock.
1. Should I pursue the order?
2. Should I be worried?
It looks a great product combining GPS/Plotter and built in AIS.

A lot of amusing Chinese whispers going on in this thread, however.

It might be a good idea to cancel the order, against a re-order at a later date. I just have a little feeling that Digital Yacht may be bringing out a new product to replace the SC500, this might fit in with the "out of stock" thing. I could be wrong of course, or the update may come next year, or never, but you can always re order when the SC500 stock comes in.

I have dealt with MES for over 10 years and always found them excellent, they could be going down the pan (they all seem to in the end) but I don't think so.

Just ordered some gear from them and dispatched straight away and delivered the next day. Nick even offered to invoice after they had sent it out. Always found them a good company to deal with.

Well Digital Yacht is alive and kicking! Their MD obviously read my post and through detective work posted a contact form on my website with his personal phone number. A quick exchange of emails and he telephoned me to explain the build in AIS is discontinued. He talked me through the alternatives which I am still thinking about. Pretty reactive customer service so they will be on my supplier list in the future. He also explained that the website has been problematic and is awaiting a support call after the bank holiday so it should reappear Tuesday.

Glad to see Digital Yacht is still around. In these days of cost cutting and outsourcing to India and China, etc, the first things normally to suffer are quality and customer care. I've had several dealings with Digital Yacht in the past, and with Nick directly in both pre and post sales situations, and have always found the customer care, helpfulness, and quality of the products to be a cut above the rest.

All of these company changes look like a carefully orchestrated 'pre-pack'. I hope they can survive beyond the short term. I have also used them and suspected something was wrong when I called in to the Bristol showroom to buy items, only to learn that had been closed. It was under-used but pretty good a few months earlier.

I picked up an order today from SMG in Plymouth, made online via MES and paid to Cactus! Cactus staff work at SMG. I don't know if it's all connected, but SMG is pretty much the largest marine electronics distributor in Europe. Got the parts I needed at a good price. All still up and running it seems.
